James Moore Named Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year
New Mexico State University junior forward James Moore has been named the 2002-03 Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year. The announcement was made by the league office. Moore leads an all-star cast on the 2002-03 all-Sun Belt Conference teams.
Special Honors for Western Kentucky and South Alabama Players
Western Kentucky teammates senior guard Mike Wells and freshman guard Anthony Winchester also received special honors. Wells was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year, while Winchester was named Freshman of the Year. Newcomer of the Year went to South Alabama junior guard Chris Young.
Kermit Davis, Jr. Honored as Coach of the Year
First-year Middle Tennessee head coach Kermit Davis, Jr. was named Coach of the Year. He earned the title after leading the Blue Raiders to a second-place finish in the East Division. Davis led the Blue Raiders to a 14-13 regular season record.
Selection Process for All-Conference Team
The all-conference team was selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of each school. Selected media with representation from each member media market also participated in the selection process.
James Moore's Impressive Statistics
Moore leads the league in scoring with 19.2 points per game and is third in field goal percentage at 59.8 percent. He is also eighth in rebounding with 6.4 boards per game. Moore is second in the league in blocked shots with 2.10 per game.

Chris Young's Contributions
Young is sixth in the league in scoring with 16.0 points per game. He is also 13th in steals with 1.33 per game.
Mike Wells' Defensive Prowess
Wells averages 10.8 points per game. He is also third in the league in blocked shots with 1.48 per game.
Anthony Winchester's Freshman Performance
Winchester is scoring 6.1 points per game and grabbing 3.5 boards per game. He is shooting 49.6 percent from the field.
2002-03 All-Sun Belt Conference Teams
Last season's Player of the Year, Hector Romero of New Orleans, joins Moore on the 2002-03 first team. Other first-team members include Middle Tennessee's Tommy Gunn, North Texas' Chris Davis, and Western Kentucky's Patrick Sparks.
The five second team members are Arkansas-Little Rock's Jibrahn Ike, Denver's Brett Starkey, Western Kentucky's David Boyden, and the Louisiana-Lafayette duo of Brad Boyd and Michael Southall.
