Application Process

John Carroll University reviews applications for admission holistically. To apply, prospective students need to submit their online application and send complete credentials directly to the Office of Admission. Some students may be contacted by their admissions counselor and asked to complete the Transfer Reference Form, which provides information about their conduct record. Transfer applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Student Accessibility Services (SAS) provides reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities who have a verifiable need. A reasonable accommodation is an exception to the usual rules, policies, practices, or services that a resident with a disability may need to have an equal opportunity to use and enjoy university housing.

Accessible Information Management (AIM)

Registered SAS students have an online profile on the Accessible Information Management (AIM) student Portal. AIM is a web-based tool designed to facilitate the accommodation process.

Testing Accommodations

SAS offers various testing accommodations, including:

Extended test time
Reduced distraction environment
Use of specialized software (speech to text, text to speech, etc.)
Use of equipment (computer as an accommodation)

Students not using specialized software or equipment will take their test in the Satellite Testing Center (STC). All other testing accommodations are scheduled at the Satellite Testing Center. All Accommodations are fulfilled based on availability. Applications received after the priority deadline will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and fulfillment cannot be assured.

Housing Accommodations

All requests for housing accommodations for students with disabilities are reviewed by the Housing Accommodation Committee. Students must provide documentation indicating a diagnosed impairment that is a current substantial limitation to a major life activity as it relates to housing. A Housing Accommodation Documentation Packet, completed by a licensed treatment provider (doctor, therapist, psychiatrist, CNP, etc.), must be submitted. The packet can be found on the second page of the online application. Placements are assigned by Residence Life and are dependent on need and inventory, not based on preference.

Meal Plan Accommodations

As a residential university, John Carroll University requires that all students living on campus participate in the meal plan available through dining services. Virtually all students’ needs can be met through the standard meal plan options. However, students with conditions whose needs cannot be met through this process may request meal plan accommodations.

Application Process: The application must be completed and submitted to the office of Student Accessibility Services to request meal plan accommodations. A Meal Plan Documentation Packet, completed by a licensed treatment provider (doctor, therapist, CNP, etc.), must be submitted. Bookshare.org: A library providing legal access to over 988,00 titles, including books and textbooks. The reading can be customized in audio, audio + highlighted text, braille, large font, and others. The cost of membership is covered by SAS services for students with an E-Text accommodation.
