Jefferson Community and Technical College: An Overview
Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC), located in Louisville, Kentucky, stands as the largest institution within the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). Formed in 2005 through the consolidation of Jefferson Community College and Jefferson Technical College, JCTC has a rich history and a strong commitment to providing accessible and high-quality education to the community.
History and Formation
Jefferson Technical College traces its roots back to August 1968. JCTC's formation on July 1, 2005, marked a significant step in streamlining and enhancing educational opportunities in the region. Before becoming part of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, it was known as Jefferson Technical College.
Campuses and Facilities
JCTC operates six campuses across Kentucky, offering a diverse range of programs and services.
Downtown Campus: Located at Second and Broadway in Downtown Louisville, the Downtown Campus is the largest, enrolling over 7,200 students annually. The Downtown Campus later grew to five buildings. In 2010, the Jefferson Community & Technical College completed construction of the new $25.6 million Health Sciences Building at Second and Chestnut Street at its Downtown Louisville Campus. It is a four-story, 100,000-square-foot (9,300 m2) instructional building for allied health programs.
Jefferson Technical Campus: Situated just seven blocks west of the Downtown Campus, the Jefferson Technical Campus focuses on technical and trades programs.

Southwest Campus: Located in southwestern Jefferson County, near the Gene Snyder Expressway and adjacent to the Jewish Hospital and St. Mary's HealthCare, the Southwest Campus houses the Technology and Related Sciences program.
Bullitt County Campus: Jefferson's newest campus is in Bullitt County in Shepherdsville and prepares students to transfer to university or to the college's technical programs.
Carrollton Campus: The Carrollton Campus, established in 2002, offers programs in Practical Nursing, Industrial Chemical Technology, and Industrial Maintenance Technology, as well as Associate in Arts and Associate in Science transfer degrees. It was the result of tremendous grassroots, community support.
JCTC also utilizes multiple other sites and an extensive eLearning program, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of students.

JCTC offers a comprehensive array of academic programs, including associate degrees, certificates, and diplomas. With over 70 programs and more than 300 degree, diploma and certificate options, students have numerous pathways to pursue their educational and career goals. The college's occupational/technical curricula encompass broad groups of instructional programs, including transfer studies, information technologies, and trade and industry technologies.

A joint program of JCTC and JCPS Adult and Continuing Education, EES (pronounced "ease") classes meet during the fall and spring semesters on both the Downtown and Southwest JCTC campuses. For the 2020-2021 academic year, in-state tuition and fees were $4,568, while out-of-state tuition and fees were $15,320. The college does not charge an application fee. At Jefferson Community and Technical College, 81 percent of undergraduates receive grant or scholarship aid and the average scholarship or grant award is $3,301.
