Justin Edwards, born on December 16, 2003, is an American professional basketball player currently signed with the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). His journey to the NBA began in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he established himself as a standout player at Imhotep Institute Charter High School before playing college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats.
High School Career
Edwards made a name for himself at Imhotep Institute Charter High School, contributing to the team's success early in his high school career. As a sophomore, he played a key role in Imhotep's victory in the Philadelphia City championship. His impact continued to grow, and as a junior, Edwards averaged 18.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, leading the Panthers to the PIAA Class 5A state championship. Following the season, he participated in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League.
His outstanding performance earned him selections to prestigious events such as the 2023 McDonald's All-American Boys Game and the Nike Hoops Summit, where he represented Team USA. In his senior year, Edwards continued to excel, averaging 17.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as Imhotep repeated as state champions. His accomplishments led to him being named Mr. Basketball.
Recruitment and Commitment to Kentucky
Edwards was a highly sought-after college prospect. He narrowed his choices down to seven schools, including Villanova and the G League. Ultimately, he committed to the University of Kentucky, choosing to play for the Wildcats. Several recruiting services ranked him as a top prospect in the 2023 class. Some rated him as high as the No. 1 overall prospect.
College Career at Kentucky
Justin Edwards arrived on Kentucky's campus and joined the basketball program. During his single season with the Kentucky Wildcats, Edwards played in 32 games, starting in 30 of them. He averaged 8.8 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game. He demonstrated his shooting ability by hitting 48.6% of his shots from the field and 36.5% from 3-point range.

Edwards scored in double figures in 14 games. He had a notable performance against Tennessee, where he made four 3-pointers, scored 16 points, and grabbed six rebounds in 37 minutes, contributing to Kentucky's upset victory. In a game against Alabama, Edwards scored a career-high 28 points, going a perfect 10 for 10 from the field. This performance made him only the third player in UK history to achieve a perfect shooting record with at least 10 attempts.
For his performance against Alabama, he was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week on Feb. 26. He also had a strong game against Vanderbilt, scoring 17 points and adding three assists. Other notable performances included 13 points and seven rebounds against Louisville and 11 points and six rebounds against .
Transition to the NBA
After one season at Kentucky, Edwards declared for the NBA draft. While he was once considered a potential No. 1 pick, he went undrafted but signed a two-way deal with his hometown team, the Philadelphia 76ers. He later signed a standard NBA contract with the 76ers.
