International Students: Immigration and Legal Obligations

If you are an international student, it is important to have a general understanding of your legal obligations before arrival. Key steps include:

Complete your Immigration Check-in: You should have access to your International Student & Scholar (ISSS) Portal where you requested your I-20 or DS-2019. In this portal, you will upload additional documents that will be used to complete your Immigration Check-in. Students are not required to come to the office for immigration check-in, unless we have additional questions. We have drop-in advising on Wednesdays from 9-11:30 AM and from 1:30 to 4:00 PM, or you can make an appointment (either in-person or virtual) with an ISSS advisor via KSU Advising.
Submit your official transcripts: You can bring your documents to the International Admissions team either with the OGE Drop Box outside of Van Campen Hall or by meeting with an International Admissions Counselor in 106 Van Campen Hall.

Additional Information for First-Year and Transfer Students

First-Year Students

To apply to the Kent State University Kent Campus as a first-year freshman applicant, you should currently be in your senior year of high school, have earned a GED or equivalent, or have earned a high school diploma but have not been enrolled at a college or university (other than dual enrollment while in high school). Your admission application can be submitted through the Common Application or the Kent State Application.

Transfer Students

By transferring to Kent State, we provide a new path and new possibilities. A transfer student is someone who was enrolled at another institution, technical or proprietary school after high school and is now applying to Kent State. Transfer students must apply through our online transfer student application and submit transcripts from each institution attended, regardless of credits earned or regional accreditation. Applicants with fewer than 12 semester hours of college coursework should also submit an official high school transcript.

Tips for Success

Aim High: Even though Kent State is lightly selective, aim for a 1020 SAT or a 18 ACT or higher.
Prepare Effectively: If your SAT score is currently below a 1020, consider prepping for the SAT and retaking it. To try to aim for the school's ACT requirement of 18 and above, you should try to take the ACT as many times as you can.
