The Foundation: Iowa's Area Education Agencies
In 1974, the Iowa Legislature established Area Education Agencies (AEAs) with a clear mission: to ensure that every child in Iowa has access to equal educational opportunities. Keystone Area Education Agency is one of nine AEAs in the state. These agencies serve as intermediate entities, bridging the gap between the state-level educational policies and the specific needs of local schools. Keystone AEA: A Regional Hub for Educational Support
Keystone AEA serves eight counties in Northeast Iowa, covering a nearly 5,000-square-mile area. Within this expansive region, the agency provides services to 21 public school districts and 27 nonpublic schools. Keystone Area Education Agency is one of nine AEAs in the state, and serves as an intermediate agency providing educational services to local schools. Keystone Area Education Agency services support public and accredited non-public schools in eight counties in northeast Iowa.

These courses integrate the DEC Recommended Practices, emphasizing instruction to enhance support for students with disabilities and strengthen social-emotional development, math, and literacy skills.

Keystone AEA acknowledges the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on students' well-being and academic success. The agency offers training and resources to help educators create trauma-informed, healing-centered environments for children, families, and communities. Participants learn about the ACEs research and approaches to foster trauma-informed, healing-centered environments for children, families, and communities. Adverse Childhood Experiences, more commonly known as ACEs, are stressful or traumatic events experienced during childhood. Research shows these events impact brain development and are related to health problems throughout the lifespan.

The agency has earned a PROMISING designation from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) through the Excellence in School Psychological Services (ESPS) Program.
