Khan Academy's LSAT Prep: A Transition to LSAC's LawHub
Since June of 2018, the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) and Khan Academy have collaborated to provide free LSAT® (Law School Admission Test) preparation through Khan Academy's Official LSAT Prep. This initiative aimed to provide accessible, high-quality test preparation resources to a broad range of test takers, regardless of their backgrounds. As the legal education landscape evolves, LSAC is consolidating its resources. This article explores the transition of LSAT prep materials from Khan Academy to LSAC's LawHub, examining the reasons behind this shift, the timeline for implementation, and the resources available to students preparing for the LSAT.
The Evolution of LSAT Prep Resources
Initially, Khan Academy's platform was the sole destination for free LSAT preparation materials when LSAC first partnered with them. Over time, LSAC's LawHub has developed into a comprehensive platform offering test preparation resources and support for individuals navigating their journey from pre-law studies to legal practice.
The Rationale Behind the Transition
LSAC and Khan Academy share a commitment to equipping students with the necessary tools, resources, and guidance for LSAT preparation. Given the growth and development of LSAC’s LawHub, both organizations have determined that students would be best served by having a single, centralized platform for LSAT preparation. LawHub is intended to be that platform.
To streamline the student experience, LSAC and Khan Academy have agreed to transfer LSAT lessons, videos, articles, practice exercises, question explanations, and other test preparation materials from Khan Academy to LSAC’s free and low-cost test prep offerings on LawHub.
Acknowledging Past Successes
Both LSAC and Khan Academy express pride in their collaborative work, acknowledging the tens of thousands of students who have benefited from the free LSAT test prep resources provided through Khan Academy. This partnership has established a solid foundation for future endeavors, and both organizations are enthusiastic about continuing to provide these tools and resources through LawHub's free and low-cost options.

Transition Timeline and Implementation
To ensure a seamless transition for students, LSAC and Khan Academy are working closely together. Khan Academy will continue to offer Official LSAT Prep through June 2024.
Starting in February 2024, LSAC will begin offering versions of the videos, articles, practice exercises, question explanations, and other resources developed in collaboration with Khan Academy, through its free and low-cost options on LawHub. LSAC is currently working out the specifics of how the material from Khan Academy will be presented on LawHub.
Also starting in February 2024, LSAC will begin providing content from Khan Academy’s practice exercises on its free LawHub test prep site. LawHub’s free test prep site includes four full practice tests for free. More Khan Academy content, including additional practice tests with explanations, will be available on LSAC’s LawHub Advantage, which provides 75 full prep tests for a low subscription price.
LawHub Advantage and Fee Waivers
In line with LSAC’s mission to promote access, equity, and fairness in law school admission, students who qualify for LSAC’s fee waiver program automatically receive a free subscription to LawHub Advantage.
Adapting to the Revised LSAT Format
As announced on October 18, the format of the LSAT will be changing, starting with the August 2024 test. To assist students planning to take the LSAT during the 2024-2025 testing cycle, LSAC will be providing test prep materials on LawHub that mirror the revised August 2024 test format. These materials will be available exclusively on LawHub starting in February 2024, concurrently with the introduction of Khan Academy resources.

LSAT Skills and Preparation
The LSAT® is designed to measure the skills necessary for law school success. These skills include reading comprehension, reasoning, and writing, and are the same skills required for success in the legal profession. The LSAT was created to promote fairness in law school admission by opening access to all qualified candidates, regardless of their background.
At LSAC, the belief is that just as legal education should be accessible to all who wish to pursue it, so should affordable, high-quality test preparation resources. LSAC's LSAT PrepSM materials enable test takers to practice with official LSAT content, which means that they will be using authentic test questions and gaining familiarity with the actual test interface.
Utilizing Official LSAT Prep and LawHub Advantage
LSAC LawHubSM allows test takers to build test-day confidence through unlimited practice that allows them to simulate the test-taking experience. Free access to Official LSAT Prep® is available through an LSAC account, offering full free Official LSAT PrepTests®, unlimited practice with the authentic test interface, self-paced and simulated exam modes, practice test history, and instant scoring feedback.
Test takers can also upgrade to LawHub Advantage for a fee, gaining one-year access to an extensive library of full LSAT PrepTests®.
Additional Resources and Considerations
LSAC provides a comprehensive list of test prep companies that have licensed Official LSAT content but does not review or audit the performance of individual test prep companies. LSAC also offers a variety of Official LSAT preparation books featuring real test questions, explanations, and advice straight from the team of LSAT test item writers.

There is no one right way to prepare for the LSAT, and as you start your preparation, you have various options to consider. Because every test taker is different, there is no single timeline that will be appropriate for everyone. In a lot of ways, the more pertinent issue isn’t the “timeline” but rather the “workload.” Test preparation involves looking at a lot of LSAT questions to develop familiarity with the test and to hone one’s reasoning and reading skills. If you have a schedule that allows you to take on a large test-prep “workload,” you might be able to dramatically improve your score in as little as a month. But others may need significantly longer.
The vast majority of test takers will benefit from some kind of structured test preparation. But this does not need to involve paying for a commercial prep course. Indeed, many test takers do very well without taking a commercial LSAT prep course. The LSAT is a test of skills - specifically critical thinking skills as applied in the areas of reading and reasoning. The LSAT is designed to measure these skills precisely because they are skills that are essential for success in law school, and preparing for the LSAT helps to strengthen those very skills.
