Navigating the Kimball Morrison Scholarship: A Comprehensive Guide
The Foundation for Seminole State College provides numerous scholarship opportunities before each academic term, assisting students in their pursuit of higher education. In 2024-2025, the Foundation dispensed $1.32 million in scholarships and emergency aid to approximately 1,500 students, with an average award of $846. Among these opportunities is the Kimball Morrison Scholarship, alongside numerous other endowed scholarships, each with specific criteria. This article aims to provide a comprehensive guide to understanding the Kimball Morrison Scholarship requirements, the application process, and tips for crafting a compelling application.
Understanding Scholarship Opportunities
The Foundation manages close to 300 scholarship accounts, offering diverse opportunities for students to receive tuition and book assistance across the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. These scholarships range from general awards to those earmarked for specific programs, such as the Ashley Nicole Strum Memorial Endowed Scholarship, Casey Endowed Scholarship (Art / Visual Arts and Emerging Media), and the Dorothy Morrison Endowed Scholarship in English and British Literature, among many others.
Application Periods
It's important to stay informed about the application deadlines. For instance, the application period for Foundation Scholarships for the 2026 Spring Term has already closed. The subsequent opportunity to apply for Foundation scholarships during the 2025-2026 Academic Year will be for the 2026 Summer Term Scholarships, with applications accepted from March 1-31, 2026. To remain updated on scholarship opportunities and application updates, becoming a member of the Foundation page on RaiderConnect is highly recommended.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for Foundation scholarships varies significantly. Each of the Foundation's 300-plus scholarships has unique eligibility requirements which can include GPA, academic program, and residency. Generally, any student who has completed the previous term of enrollment in a degree or certification-seeking program at Seminole State College can apply. However, students classified as dual-enrolled, transient, or specific international students are typically not eligible for Foundation scholarships.
Students are strongly encouraged to also apply for FASFA (even if PELL approval is not expected), as this information is utilized to validate financial need.

How to Apply
Students who have completed their first term of attendance may apply for Foundation Scholarships using the online scholarship application system. The process involves several key steps:
Access the Application Portal: Go to www.foundationscholars.com or click/tap on the "Apply Now for Scholarships" button, which is visible during open application periods.
Troubleshooting Login Issues: If you encounter trouble logging in to the scholarship system, follow the troubleshooting directions provided on the website.
Complete the General Application: You will need to complete the General Application before the scholarship system will show you any additional recommended scholarships for which you may be eligible to apply. It is crucial to complete all of the fields, even if they are not required. The non-required fields are required for some individual scholarships, and if these fields are left blank, you will not be considered for the scholarship.
Submit the Application: Once you have completed the General Application, click the Submit button at the bottom of the page. This will direct you to all recommended scholarships. It is encouraged that you apply for all recommended scholarships. These are scholarships where the applicant meets most or all of the eligibility requirements.
Explore Recommended and Additional Opportunities: After the initial sign-in, select ‘Opportunities’ and then select ‘Recommended’ to view the recommended scholarships again. You may also view 'External' opportunities, when available, which include links to scholarships that are offered outside of the Foundation and College. View "All" to see a complete list of all scholarships offered during the open application period. Students may apply to any or all of the scholarships listed; however, only applications that meet all the eligibility requirements will be considered. Auto-Match opportunities will list "None" as no further action is required by the applicant.
It's important to note that there are many auto-match scholarship opportunities that each applicant will be considered for automatically upon submission of the General Application.
Crafting a Compelling Essay
A crucial component of the scholarship application is the essay. A great essay will convince reviewers that you are a great investment for our donors. The essay should be 500 words. Be detailed and honest in your essay. If you have a low GPA, let the reviewers know why. Life happens, but your explanation will let them know you are making your best effort. To maximize your chances of success, consider the following points:
Program of Study and Motivation: Clearly articulate your program of study and what motivated you to pursue a career in this area. Demonstrate your passion and commitment to your chosen field.
Post-Graduation Goals: Outline your goals post-graduation and beyond. Show the reviewers that you have a clear vision for your future and how the scholarship will help you achieve your aspirations.
