Understanding King School Tuition and Affordability

Investing in a child's education is a significant decision for any family. King School understands this and strives to provide a high-quality independent school education while also making it accessible to families from diverse economic backgrounds. This article provides a comprehensive overview of King School's tuition structure, payment options, and financial aid opportunities.

Tuition Commitment and Payment Plans

King’s Academy strives to keep costs as low as possible. Because the yearly budget is based on the total number of students enrolled, parents are expected to commit to the program for the entire school year, August through May. Parents are committed to pay the entire year's tuition regardless of withdrawal date. A withdrawal fee equal to a full year's tuition will be charged once the first tuition date has passed. Families enrolling new students are required to pay a $200 per student tuition deposit at the time of enrollment. This deposit will be applied towards the family's overall tuition balance.

King School offers several payment options to accommodate different family needs:

  • Yearly Plan: Families that pay on the yearly plan receive a 5% discount on their family's total tuition. Payment is due in full by August 15th.
  • 9-Month Payment Plan: Offered through Blackbaud Tuition Management, this plan enables you to pay your tuition balance in 9 interest-free installments beginning May 1.
  • Monthly Payment Plan: In cases of late enrollment, payments are allocated over the remaining months of the monthly plan schedule.

Tuition Structure and Additional Fees

The information provided includes a tuition chart for 2026-2027 tuition rates.Senior tuition rates are a minimum for students taking 5 or fewer classes. Additional tuition will be charged for additional classes. Additional students in one family receive a $225/year discount for the 1st sibling, $450/year discount for the second sibling, and $675/year discount for the 3rd or more.

Beyond the base tuition, families should also be aware of additional fees:

Variable Tuition Program: Making King School Affordable

King recognizes that an independent school education is a major family investment. To address this, King School utilizes a Variable Tuition program.

Families concerned about their ability to pay the highest range for tuition can apply for assistance through Variable Tuition. King’s Variable Tuition program is available for full-time students in Kindergarten through 12th grade only. Preschool and international students are not eligible to receive Variable Tuition at this time. In the case of divorced or separated parents, both natural parents must submit an application and tax documentation (either combined together as one application or via separate applications). Please notify the King’s Business Office if completing separate applications.

While there may be some general parameters for qualifying, we recognize that each family has a unique set of circumstances around family income levels, spending priorities, and tuition assistance needs. We are happy to go over any specific concerns or factors about qualifications that you may have with a call or short meeting.

Key Aspects of the Variable Tuition Program

  • Need-Based: The Variable Tuition program is need-based, meaning that financial aid is awarded based on a family's demonstrated ability to pay. Students who have been accepted to The King's Academy may apply for financial assistance. This is a need-based assistance to help offset the cost of tuition.
  • Application Required Each Year: Families must reapply for financial aid each year. The award for each year is determined independently of awards from prior years and may change due to family financial circumstances or King’s available funding.
  • Supplements Family Contribution: The Variable Tuition program is intended to supplement a family’s financial commitment to their child’s education. As such, financial aid will not cover all tuition and fees. In order for us to meaningfully impact the greatest number of families, financial aid awards will generally not exceed 45% of the total tuition.
  • No Impact on Admission: A Variable Tuition application does not reduce your chances of acceptance, nor does an offer of a financial aid grant guarantee your acceptance. Admission and financial aid decisions are made independent of each other but the two application cycles do overlap. Interested families should simultaneously complete admission application materials and financial aid application materials.

Designated Aid Programs

Families may receive a greater amount of aid if they qualify for designated aid programs, such as Minority Student Financial Aid, aid for Single-Parent Families funded by an anonymous endowment, the Chuck Bundrant Endowment, or student Wage-Match funded by the Gwen Postma Wage-Match fund. Qualification for designated aid programs is determined by King’s as part of the financial aid assessment and award process.

Additional Avenues for Tuition Reduction

Beyond the Variable Tuition program, King School offers other avenues for reducing tuition costs:
