Kingswood Oxford: An Overview
Founded as a result of the merger of Kingswood School and Oxford School for Girls, Kingswood Oxford is located just steps from Blue Back Square and West Hartford Center. The school serves students in grades 6-12. KO values academic and co-curricular excellence, ethical citizenry, and meaningful relationships with its students and their families. Small classes are taught by exceptional teachers who encourage students to engage both widely and deeply in the liberal arts and sciences experience. The school prides itself on preparing well-rounded graduates remarkably well for the challenges of highly selective colleges and equipping them for success in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. 100% of KO students matriculate to a four-year college or university and 100% of recent graduates said that KO prepared them well to very well in written work, critical thinking, and communication skills. A testament to KO’s academic rigor is the fact that 100% of Seniors write a long-form thesis paper. English Language Proficiency
Kingswood Oxford has a required score of 100 on the TOEFL. The school TOEFL code is 4796. Please check the Application Checklist for all admissions requirements at this time. The Duolingo test will be accepted if your student would like to submit this score but it will not replace the TOEFL test score. Students can find the Duolingo test online. There is no school code for this.
Visa Information for International Students
All families will receive instructions on how to establish a Flywire account upon acceptance to KO. In order to register with Flywire, families will need the letter of admission and the enrollment contract. This information can be used to establish the Flywire account and pay the deposit. Once KO has received the deposit, families will establish a Blackbaud Tuition Management Account and receive the Form I-20 in their secure fileshare.
All official admission decisions are made on March 10th of the calendar year. Students have one month, until April 10th, to decide if they will enroll. At the time of enrollment and payment of the deposit or full tuition, the I-20 will be issued. Your student can pay the I-901 fee and make an appointment at the US Embassy or US Consulate and proceed with the initial visa interview. Depending on the timing of the process in your country, the F-1 will be granted at their discretion. Visa wait times are usually a few days after your appointment is complete. Most students have their visa process sorted out long before our arrival date in August.
As you are aware, the TOEFL score required of Kingswood Oxford applicants is substantial. We find that students who score better on the TOEFL test logically have better command of English - this level of English aids in social integration but also in academic integration. With this high ability in the English language comes a higher ability to perform and achieve. KO does not offer an ESL program so our international students must be highly proficient to achieve success in all areas at KO.
Health Requirements
The State of Connecticut requires that ALL students must have a physical exam and tuberculous screening (if coming from a high-risk country) annually. The CT Health Assessment Form is required each year from ALL students. We recommend having the form completed upon arrival in the US by a Connecticut Licensed Physician. Please make an appointment for your student before they arrive at their normal physician if returning or at the AFC Clinic in West Hartford recommended by our school nurse. All international students must have a US health insurance policy. Your agent may provide recommended firms.
