Academic Advising and Faculty Mentors
Navigating college coursework and choosing the right path can be challenging. LaGuardia offers various advising options to guide students. Academic advisors provide advice on specific courses related to a student's major, helping them stay on track for graduation. Faculty Mentors and Career Counselors offer career guidance and information about potential career paths related to a student's field of study. Transfer Peer Mentors, who are LaGuardia alumni currently enrolled at four-year CUNY colleges, offer support and advice to students planning to transfer.
CUNY Start and Math Start
For students who need to strengthen their skills before starting credit-bearing courses, LaGuardia offers programs like CUNY Start and Math Start. CUNY Start is an intensive pre-college preparation program focusing on reading, writing, and math skills, as well as strategies for success in college. Math Start helps students build on their high school math skills, covering more complex topics in algebra, including functions and the manipulation of expressions. These programs aim to build a stronger academic foundation, reduce the need for developmental courses, and alleviate the financial burden of paying for developmental courses.

The physical media collection includes over 6,000 titles, and streaming technology provides access to over 200,000 video titles.
The Library also offers laptops, iPads, and calculators for loan to students. Group study rooms are available for students to collaborate and use technology such as large monitors. The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service allows students to borrow items not held in the LaGuardia collection from institutions outside of CUNY.
