Navigating the LBC Student Portal: A Comprehensive Guide

Lancaster Bible College (LBC) offers a comprehensive online learning experience supported by a variety of resources accessible through the Student Portal. This guide provides an overview of these resources and how to navigate the portal effectively.

Understanding how to use the portal is crucial for a successful and fulfilling educational journey at LBC.

Online Classes: Structure and Expectations

Each of LBC's 16-week semesters (fall, spring, summer) comprises two 8-week sub-terms (sub-term A and sub-term B). The course will open 10 days before the start date for viewing purposes. Use this time to review the syllabus and begin the first week’s assignments. Lectures are pre-recorded and can be watched throughout the week as your schedule allows. Discussions are online conversations where professors provide a topic or question, and students "discuss" the topic by posting their thoughts and replying to classmates’ posts. While most assignments are written papers, some courses have online quizzes/exams. There is a weekly, 30-60 minute Zoom session where students can connect with classmates and the professor, ask questions, and build community. A recording and reflection assignment is available for those unable to attend the live session. Outside of the Zoom session and assignment deadlines, work can be completed throughout the week as your schedule allows. Students should plan on 16 hours of schoolwork a week per course.

Course Registration and Drop/Add

Course registration for on-campus undergraduate students who are currently enrolled and degree-seeking occurs during a registration window for the upcoming semester. Students must meet with their academic advisor to choose classes and obtain approval for those classes before registering for classes. The registration window for each classification of students (e.g. seniors) is posted on the Student Portal and in the registration guide. On-campus undergraduate students register for their courses through the Student Portal. At the beginning of each semester, there is a short time period for students to make final adjustments to their class schedules. The Registrar’s Office posts the dates for the drop/add window on the Student Portal and in the registration guide. Students wishing to drop/add a course during this window must use the form on the Student Portal. A drop/add fee may be assessed. Students should carefully consider the dropping or adding of a course and consult with their academic advisor and the financial aid office.

Student Support Services

At LBC, staff and faculty are personally invested in the lives of each student, from enrollment through graduation and beyond. A thriving social community is at the core of their work.

Success Coaches

All online students are assigned a Success Coach who will walk alongside them from enrollment to graduation, supporting, encouraging, and guiding every step of the way.

Career Services

LBC's Career Services exists to help students and alumni live out their purpose and clarify their calling. They guide students in their journey to discover their purpose in life and prepare them academically and spiritually to serve God.

Technology Support

If you need help troubleshooting an issue on your computer, the online learning platform (Canvas), or campus network tools, contact the LBC Help Desk using its online form. Be sure to consult LBC’s Technology Knowledge Base of frequently asked questions. A Windows machine is recommended. A Mac would be the second option. Chromebooks and tablets are not recommended as they do not allow the full function of Microsoft Office, which will impact some of your assignments.

Financial Aid and Textbook Information

Financial Aid

Financial aid includes federal grants and student loans. To qualify for Federal Student Aid (student federal loans), you must be enrolled in at least 6 credits (2 courses) in the semester you are seeking aid. Your financial aid offer letter can be viewed through “My Financial Aid” in the Student Portal.

Slingshot Choice and Textbooks

All students are automatically enrolled in Slingshot Choice, a subscription-based service that ensures required course materials are delivered before classes begin. You can choose to rent books (which you’ll return later) or purchase them new, used, or digitally-whatever fits your needs. As a new student, you will be enrolled to RENT books that will need to be returned. Please visit LBC Campus Store to view how (hard copy or digital) and when your books will be delivered prior to the start of your course. View a short video tutorial to learn how to change preferences, verify shipping address, receive tracking information and more. The cost of the books will be charged to your student account.

Microsoft Office Suite

As an LBC Online student, you are eligible for Microsoft Office Suite.

Campus Locations

CPE does not hold student transcripts, diplomas or records, but rather provides this directory of contacts for you to use as a service.
