Foundational Stages: Building Confidence and Basic Skills
Snowplow Sam (Ages 3-6)
These introductory classes are designed for children ages 5 and under and are divided into four progressive levels allowing children with no prior skating experience to build confidence while learning the ABCs of movement: agility, balance, coordination and speed. The Snowplow Sam levels are designed to help skaters ages 3-6 develop preliminary coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on the ice. Snowplow Sam classes are divided into 3 progressive levels, combining Snowplow Sam 3 & 4. Designed to help children between the ages of 4-6 years old develop the ABC’s of movement: agility, balance, coordination and speed.
Basic Skills (Levels 1-6)
The Basic Skills levels are designed for ages 6 and up and are teaching the FUNdamentals of ice skating and provides the best foundation for figure skating, hockey and speed skating. Six progressive levels introduce forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers and turns. At Mennen, five progressive levels introduce forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers and turns. The first stage of skills forms a strong foundation for your skaters to explore the world of skating. All will progress at their own pace working toward mastering each skill. Upon completion of the Basic Skills 1-6 levels, skaters will be able to confidently advance to more specialized areas of skating. Basic Skills teaches the fundamentals of ice skating and provides the best foundation for all skating disciplines. All classes will be well-structured with the focus on proper skill development taught in a positive, FUN and social environment.
Advanced Stages: Specializing in Skating Disciplines
Free Skate (Levels 1-6)
Each Free Skate level is divided into three sections: skating skills, spins and jumps. Each free skate level is comprised of a variety of progressive skating skills, transitions, spins and jumps - all of which build on the previous skill, providing skaters a strong foundation of all elements. These levels will be taught in a positive and interactive group format such as a bridge program, circuit classes or as an introductory training program. Instructors will focus on quality and mastery of skills. Focuses on skating skills, jumps, spins from Basic 6 - Free Skate 6. Includes off-ice component as well as on-ice choreography and participation in the Annual Holiday Ice Show & Spring Show.
Hockey Skills (Levels 1-4 & Power)
This curriculum is designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating. In four badge levels, skaters will learn how to be more proficient and agile on the ice. Designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating, the four badge levels, plus power skating, will teach skaters how to be more proficient and agile on the ice. Proper skating techniques for the game of hockey are the primary focus of the levels. All elements will be taught without a puck. Skaters will learn the basic hockey stance, stride, knee bend, use of edges and other necessary fundamentals to be successful in hockey practices and game situations. Focused on the fundamentals of skating skills, edges, turns, quickness and agility for players to be successful in games. The Hockey Curriculum is designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating without a stick or puck. Skaters will learn the basic hockey stance, stride, knee bend and other necessary skills to develop proper skating techniques. Skaters must wear full hockey equipment.

Adult Skills (Levels 1-6)
The adult curriculum is designed for both beginning and experienced adult skaters who wish to improve their skating skills. This curriculum is designed for both beginning and experienced adult skaters ages 16 and up, who wish to improve their skating skills. Participation in the program will help promote physical fitness and improve balance and coordination while teaching proper skating techniques. The Adult curriculum is designed for both beginning and experienced skaters who wish to improve their skating skills. At Mennen, classes are divided into 3 sections - Adult 1 for beginners/first time skaters, Adult 2 and Advanced Adult, combining Adult 3-6 curriculum which is group instruction with an element of individual practice. Teen/Adult Skills: (Ages 13 & up) The adult curriculum is designed for both beginning and experienced adult skaters who wish to improve their skating skills. Participation in the program will help promote physical fitness and improve balance and coordination while teaching proper skating techniques.

Aspire Program
Aspire teaches young athletes and their families what it means to be a figure skater and is comprehensive package program that includes: on-ice classes, character development badge program and parent education.
Specialty Classes and Camps
This class will focus on specialty skills, strength training, choreography, and much more. Skaters will be challenged by learning skills from upcoming levels with fun drills, exercises and games. Learn to Skate Camps are offered throughout the year and designated weeks in the Summer. Camps are in a half-day format and provide both on and off-ice classes. These camps are for 4-12-year-old (no prior skating experience required) and include both on and off-ice games and classes.

Mennen Sports Arena proudly presents ice shows that showcase the talents of all our skaters-from beginners in our Learn to Skate program to advanced freestyle athletes. These inclusive performances highlight the progress and passion of our skating community, providing a supportive and fun environment where skaters of every level can shine. Our shows combine artistry, skill, and the joy of skating, celebrating each skater’s unique journey on the ice. Whether taking their first steps on skates or perfecting complex routines, all participants come together to create memorable experiences for families, friends, and fans.
Practice Time
8 Free Public Skating admissions for each skater to practice. This Public Session Pass can be used at your convenience on any weekday or weekend public session. This Pass is limited to 8 sessions and will expire at the end of the learn to skate semester. This Public Session Pass can be used at your convenience on any weekday or weekend public session. This Pass is limited to 8 sessions and will expire at the end of the learn to skate session. The pass is attached to your Household Account for easy access if you forget your Pass ID number. Skate rentals are not included during the public session.

Key Considerations for Enrollment
Age and Skill Level
Learn-To-Skate group classes are for skaters age 4 through adult who are looking to learn how to ice skate.
Equipment
Helmet: Required for all Basic 1 students and skaters ages 7 and under (not provided by rink). Skaters must have passed Basic 2 and are required to wear a helmet. Skaters must be passed Basic 2 and are required to wear hockey helmet with face mask, hockey gloves, elbow pads, shin guards and hockey skates. Yes, skate rentals are available starting at a child size 6 up to an adult size 14. Figure and hockey skates are available.
Registration and Fees
Learn to Skate class registration is always opened to current customers first which are skaters currently enrolled in classes a week prior to the public online.
Policies
Classes may be combined due to lack of enrollment. Credits: Credits are not issued after the second lesson. Granted credits are applied to the family’s household account. Refunds: A $25.00 administrative fee applies to any class withdrawals and/or refunds. An additional per class fee applies. Cancellations: Classes may be combined due to lack of enrollment.
