This disability can last a person’s lifetime and affect mental process and intelligence capacity. Assessment and Evaluation

The role of an LDT-C comprises the analysis of the disabled child’s physiological, learning, and psychological learning performances. The LDT-C accomplishes this through the assessment of the child’s capabilities against his overall achievement. Detailing diagnostic findings for each child referred for full Child Study Team evaluation, including both new cases and reevaluations. The report will present evidence of a thorough evaluative assessment and how their components apply to the child evaluated. Focus is centered upon the student and his education background as opposed to how well he fares in assessments.

The LDTC conducts educational assessments, interprets data. He/she also acts as an expert in regard to the appropriate techniques and strategy applicable in dealing with persons with special needs. The LDTC is a certified member of the Child Study Team (CST) responsible for evaluating, identifying, and supporting students with learning disabilities.

Collaboration and Consultation

An integral aspect of the LDTC's role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to create effective educational plans. Act as a liaison between school and parents as a contact person for assigned cases, as case manager for selected special education pupils. The result is used to make recommendations for the appropriate education plans of the child. The LDT-C makes recommendations which help to make education plans for the child. This may differ from one child’s need to the next. The LDT-C may utilize these findings in the implementation of special education law in her role as a consultant.

Educational Background and Certification

Must hold New Jersey State certification as Learning Disabilities Teacher­ Consultant. Master's Degree from accredited graduate school. Applicants to this program are required to have a New Jersey Standard Instructional Certificate (or out-of-state equivalent) and three years of full-time classroom experience prior to enrollment. In addition to teaching experience (required for certification as LDT-C), diagnostic and/or consultative experience is desirable. School Certification in the state of New Jersey. The New Jersey LDT-C certificate is required for teaching persons with disabilities.
