Chandler Traditional Academy Liberty: A Foundation of Academic Excellence

The Chandler Traditional Academy (CTA) Liberty program, established in 2002, emphasizes a strong partnership between parents and staff. Dual Language Immersion Program

In 2015-16, CTA-Liberty introduced a Spanish Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program at first grade that follows the 50/50 model. Currently, the Dual Language Immersion program is offered from kindergarten through 6th grade. CTA Liberty now offers Pre K Dual Language Exploration. This program provides students with the opportunity to become bilingual and biliterate, enhancing their cognitive abilities and future opportunities.

Comprehensive Curriculum and Extracurricular Activities

The curriculum at CTA Liberty includes special area classes such as Library, Music, and Physical Education. Additionally, the academy offers a variety of extracurricular programs like Orchestra, Band, Chorus, Student Council, and sports, which take place before or after the regular school day.

Independent Tutoring Center

It is important to note that Liberty Learning Academy is not a charter school or private school but rather an independent tutoring center. Classes often require follow-up work at home, emphasizing the importance of parental involvement.

Liberty Academy: Alternative Education and Credit Recovery

Across Texas, and the United States, there are “alternative schools” available to students. These can come in the form of charter schools, magnet schools, at-risk programs, special needs day schools, independent private schools, and even boarding schools. An alternative school is defined as an educational setting designed to accommodate the educational, behavioral, and/or medical needs of children and adolescents that cannot be adequately addressed in a traditional school environment. VISD’s Liberty Academy Credit Recovery program specifically focuses on providing 3rd, 4th, and 5th-year students a second chance. Liberty Academy provides a different path and a different setting for students, so they can reach their goals. Each student enrolled has a different educational plan catered to what they need. DAEP’s serve as an alternative educational setting for students removed from their usual campus or instructional setting due to disciplinary reasons. Students who attend Liberty have typically experienced gaps in learning, behavioral challenges, and attendance issues. Many times, this is at no fault to the students but is merely a cause of the environment they’re in. As the district has mentioned many times, we feel there are no lesser paths, but different paths to a successful launch.

Overcoming Challenges

After a tough 2020-21 school year for students nationwide due to COVID-19, the 2021-22 school year began with its own set of challenges. Just weeks before students were scheduled to return to campuses, Stroman Middle School’s building A was condemned due to unsafe environmental conditions. This resulted in Stroman students being relocated to Liberty campus. As a domino effect was seemingly occurring, Liberty Academy’s Credit Recovery students had to relocate to the Dr. Across the district, many were unsure if it would be able to work and provide students with the necessary environment for success.

College Prep Program

In September, VISD and VC partnered to provide a college prep program opportunity for Liberty Academy Credit Recovery students. In addition to providing classroom space on their campus, VC has provided supplemental support, including access to free tutoring for credit recovery classes and assistance throughout the college application and FAFSA application process. This unwavering support has led to the most recent achievement by Liberty Academy’s Credit Recovery students. As of Dec. Now, students who were once trying to merely catch up on credits and EOC tests will be taking their first college class come Spring 2022. This partnership is just another chapter in the saga of VC and VISD helping students excel.

Liberty Military Housing (Liberty), acknowledged for its quality homes and vibrant neighborhoods, has established Liberty Learning Academies as hands-on training centers for its team members. These academies aim to provide in-person training and professional development opportunities.

Norfolk, VA: The First Academy

First Liberty Learning Academy, Hands-On Training Center, Opens in Norfolk, VA. The 2,000 sq ft training center will provide in-person training to Liberty's 170+ employee-owners in the Mid-Atlantic. The center is equipped with classrooms and fully functional workstations, including three rehearsal kitchens and bathrooms, where team members will complete educational courses and gain hands-on experience working with household appliances and equipment that are found in Liberty's communities. Through training sessions at the Liberty Learning Academy, team members will be equipped to address concerns with HVAC units, plumbing, electricity, and other essential maintenance tasks. The Liberty Learning Academy in Norfolk is the first of many planned regional centers in Liberty's portfolio across the country.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM): Expanding Training Opportunities

Liberty Military Housing (Liberty), acknowledged for its quality homes and vibrant neighborhoods, today announced the opening of the Liberty Learning Academy at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). This new, hands-on training facility is the second of many planned academies throughout the company’s portfolio. Through the Liberty Learning Academy, the company’s 180 employee-owners at JBLM will have extensive access to resources and training that helps them to successfully deliver quality homes and exemplary service to the military families who live within its communities. The 2,000 sq-ft facility will be equipped with classrooms and fully functional workstations, including three rehearsal kitchens and bathrooms, where team members will complete educational courses and gain hands-on experience working with household appliances and equipment that are found in Liberty’s communities. Through its multi-faceted, comprehensive training programs that incorporate hands-on learning and 3D simulations through Interplay, Liberty team members will be fully equipped to address concerns with HVAC units, plumbing, electricity, and other essential maintenance tasks.

Impact and Results

Liberty opened its first in-person educational facility in Hampton Roads, VA in May 2024. In its first year in operation, the Liberty Learning Academy has hosted 82 professional development workshops and 18 onboarding trainings, resulting in over 4,700 training hours. The enhanced training programs have contributed to exceptional business results for Liberty’s communities in this area over the last 12 months. The company’s Mid-Atlantic region exceeded many of its operational and financial targets while earning resident satisfaction scores of 4.64 out of 5 for move-ins and 4.76 out of 5 for work orders, as well as a 4.5 out of 5 for new hire satisfaction. “We are thrilled to open the second Liberty Learning Academy, allowing us to offer greater access to resources and training for employee-owners who work within JBLM,” says Luis Lopez, Vice President of Training and Development. “The first Liberty Learning Academy has garnered overwhelmingly positive feedback from team members and has supported many improved business outcomes in our Mid-Atlantic region.

Training and Development

On average, Liberty offers more than 150 training hours annually to each of its 1,500 employees through the EmpHour initiative, wherein team members are given uninterrupted time each week for training and professional development. The opening of this center will offer a total of 400 courses to various Liberty team members from enhanced leadership development, customer service practice, to process-driven courses, all designed to challenge the team members in a controlled environment before they enter the field.
