The TechStart Internship Experience

This immersive experience allows you to focus on specific projects, ranging from customer-facing mobile apps to back-end solutions, while gaining exposure to emerging technologies and tech languages. TechStart Program Structure

The TechStart program offers both internship and co-op opportunities:

Internship: An 11-week summer program.
Co-Op: A 6-month assignment during the fall and spring semesters.

The TechStart Summer Internship Program includes various sessions that highlight Liberty Mutual’s inclusive culture and core values. As a gateway into the Technology organization, entry-level talent participates in a six-month TechStart Program. In this program, you’ll gain strong technical training as together we zero in on your desired career path and the skill-set you’ll need to succeed.

The TechStart program emphasizes real-world projects. Here are a few examples of projects that TechStart teams have worked on:

Do Not Contact API: A team of four built a tool that checks federal, state, and internal Do-Not-Contact lists to prevent marketing calls that could incur fines of up to $1,500 per violation. As part of the team assignment, their goal was to enhance LIAM by enabling support for multiple legal teams (multi-tenancy), making it possible for several users to work on licensing requests simultaneously (parallel workflow), and adding features for collaborative editing and sharing of documents.
Actuarial Dashboard: This TechStart team developed a dashboard for actuaries that streamlines and simplifies the filtering and searching of historical model data, enabling easier comparison of existing models and data accessibility for our developers. They collaboratively delivered a full-stack solution from the ground-up by implementing secure authentication, integrating with internal APIs, and fully planning, designing, and developing the frontend ourselves using Angular and our internal Fluid design library.

Global Digital Services Internship

Liberty Mutual Global Digital Services also welcomes high school students as part of its internship program. Global Digital Services is part of the Central IT Services organization that runs the infrastructure and foundational technology used across all business units and within Corporate Departments. As an intern, you will respond to incoming requests through an omni channel experience that consists of voice, electronic tickets and live chat to assist Liberty Mutual employees with their IT needs. Responsibilities include:

Responding to incoming requests and resolving customer problems through an omni channel experience that consists of voice, electronic tickets and live chat.
Recording inquiries, providing input on, resolving or directing requests to appropriate technical area or vendor.
Escalating to or consulting with senior staff when solution is unclear.
Reporting problems with procedures and making suggestions for improvements.
