Linkoping University (LiU), located in Linköping, Sweden, is a state university established in the 1960s. Since becoming Sweden's sixth university in 1975, LiU has expanded significantly to include campuses in Norrköping and Stockholm. History, Affiliations, and Rankings

Linköping became Sweden's sixth university in 1975. Since mediaeval times, Linköping has been a prominent center of learning. The Cathedral School opened in 1627 as Sweden's third upper secondary school, and a college for primary school teachers opened in 1843. The Fröbel Institute, Sweden's first college for training preschool teachers, was established in Norrköping in 1902.

LiU is affiliated with the European University Association (EUA) and the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU). It has secured a ranking of #329 in the QS World University Rankings. U.S. News and World Report ranked the University #350 in Best Global Universities, #151 in Best Global Universities in Europe, and #10 in Best Global Universities in Sweden.

Infrastructure, Campuses, and Courses

Linköping University consists of three main campuses located in Linköping and Norrköping. Campus Valla and the University hospital campus are located in Linköping, whereas Campus Norrköping is located in the centre of Norrköping. Another campus, Campus Lidingö, is located on the island of Lidingö just outside central Stockholm and offers undergraduate programmes in Furniture Design, Cabinet-making, and Furniture Upholstery.

The three main campuses of Linköping University are in the stergötland (East Sweden) region, in the cities of Linköping and Norrköping. The Twin Cities region is in the process of merging the two cities into one integrated urban region. LiU provides a free bus service for their students between the three campuses. The East Sweden campus is home to various old fortifications, rune stones, and prehistoric rock carvings.

LiU offers 26 international master's programmes taught entirely in English, in various subject areas. The university has recently launched their first bachelor’s program in the field of Medicine and health sciences. Most of the programmes at LiU are interdisciplinary, combining different courses like industrial management and engineering, medicine and engineering, or integrating economics, law, and languages.

All University campuses provide students with different libraries and comprise Articles, books, journals, and databases. Students can also request interlibrary loans for books and articles, which helps them in reservations and renewal of books online. Students at LiU have access to the internet and computers 24 hours a day on all the campuses. The students get access to computer rooms through their LiU-Card which allows them to log on to the computers and will also receive access to the LiU learning platform Lisam.
