Toddler Curriculum: Nurturing Early Learners (Ages 2-3)
If you have a toddler, or teach young children, this toddler preschool curriculum is perfect for you. This toddler curriculum is geared towards children age 2-3 years old. It is meant to be done along with an adult. Each packet includes 5 color and 5 black and white pages of activities to go along with a fun book your toddler will love. Read the book together, and then complete the activities at their pace. These activities are simple, age appropriate, and are a great way to lead into beginning preschool skills.
Are you wondering what should be taught at home or in the classroom to toddlers? Are you wondering what curriculum might be right for ages 2-3? Or are you simply wondering what should I be teaching to a toddler? Children ages 2-3 are truly at a magical time in their lives. They have begun to really discover their surroundings, their voice, and soak up everything they learn. That is why this toddler curriculum for ages 2-3 is book based. Children learn the most from reading! Each of the 40 packets is focused on a well love child’s book, including, “The Napping House,” “Harry the Dirty Dog,” “The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear,” and SOOO much more. After reading the story your child or student will begin practicing very beginning level school skills. Some, they may be able to do on their own. Some, may require help. The first time he tried any of the cutting pages, he simply cut the page into pieces. And guess what, that’s okay! This toddler curriculum for 2-3 year olds is meant to be at their level. Now that we have been doing this for a year, he has a better grasp on how to hold scissors and where to cut when needed. We don’t expect perfection, I just want learning to take place!
Preschool Book Companion Bundle: Integrating Literature and Learning
If you enjoy the toddler curriculum, but are ready for more advanced concepts to be learning, this preschool book companion bundle is perfect for you. You can complete one page or all of them from each packet and they correlate with each book being read. This is a perfect way to teach all the preschool standards while incorporating learning fun as well!

The Little Owl School Philosophy: A Constructivist Approach
Little Owl School is a small school with a large purpose: we work to change the way young children interact with the world. We help them to experience fairness, integrity, and respect for others and the environment. Ultimately, we provide them a springboard for becoming the person they are meant to be. If we begin to value who children are, not just what we want them to be, a shift happens in the way we think about learning and teaching. At Little Owl, the child’s inherent desire to learn is acknowledged and facilitated. We believe the heart of children’s learning is play. Through self-initiated play, children develop physical, cognitive, social, and emotional skills and grow into critical thinkers.

The educational philosophy at Little Owl is based on constructivist learning theory and research, which has shown that children learn best by discovering and constructing their own knowledge in an enriched environment. Little Owl is committed to a curriculum in which the children’s ideas, not the adult’s, construct the planning of projects. Before beginning projects, teachers learn about the children’s interests through observation. Teachers then prepare varied materials that will provoke and anticipate avenues for the children to explore their interests through projects. One primary goal of the curriculum is that teachers accept children and their parents as they are: culturally, developmentally, and linguistically. Teachers do not maneuver children into preconceived roles ordained by arbitrary methods or objectives. Instead, they treat children as contributing participants in the curriculum.
Our educational program and vision at Little Owl is inspired and nurtured by the programs in Reggio Emilia, Italy, where education is viewed not as a product or goal to be attained, but rather as an ongoing process of growing and learning through investigation and inquiry. Our knowledge about how children grow, learn, and develop critical thinking is also validated by the work of Piaget, Vygotsky, Bruner, Dewey and others.
“The curriculum is not child centered or teacher directed. The curriculum is child originated and teacher framed…We have given great care in selecting the term ‘negotiated curriculum’ instead of emergent or child centered curriculum. We propose that ‘negotiated curriculum’ better captures the constructive, continual and reciprocal relation among teachers, children and parents and better captures the negotiations among subject matter: representational media and the children’s current knowledge.” (Innovations in Early Education: The International Reggio Exchange, vol.3, no.)
For Parents: Partnering in Your Child's Development
We make sure to involve parents in our daily schedule and learning programs to ensure complete transparency. This ensures that your children are getting the care they deserve while parents are still able to make suggestions that can guide their child’s development. If there are issues at the school with your child or with the school it is addressed quickly and smoothly.
Environmental Responsibility: A Zero-Waste Policy
To reduce our impact on the Earth’s resources and address waste management issues moving forward into the next millennium, Little Owl School is committed to diverting our waste from the landfill. We have a zero-waste policy that staff, families and vendors are committed to.
