Logan Elm Board of Education: Serving the Community and Shaping the Future
The Logan Elm Board of Education plays a vital role in guiding the educational direction of the Logan Elm School District. Composed of elected and appointed community members, the board is responsible for setting policies, overseeing finances, and ensuring the district meets its goals for student achievement and community engagement.
Board Members: A Dedicated Team
The Logan Elm Board of Education consists of five members, each bringing a unique background and perspective to the table. These individuals are deeply invested in the success of the district and its students.
Debbie Shaw: President
Debbie Shaw has been a dedicated member of the Logan Elm Board of Education since 1988. Her extensive tenure demonstrates her long-standing commitment to the district. She actively participates in shaping district policies and personnel decisions through her work on the Policy, Personnel, and Communications committees. A resident of the Logan Elm district since 1965, when her family moved from West Virginia, Debbie has deep roots in the community. She and her husband, Dennis, have two children and four grandchildren. Their daughter, Jennifer, a 2000 graduate of Logan Elm High School (LEHS), now contributes to the district as a teacher.
Matt Kim: Vice President
Matt Kim was elected to the Logan Elm Board of Education in November 2021 and began his term in January 2022. He contributes to the board through his membership on the Buildings & Grounds/Transportation and Athletics committees. As a 1994 graduate of Logan Elm and a resident of the district for 38 years, Matt has a strong connection to the local community. His wife, Beth, is also a Logan Elm graduate (1996). They have one son, Brady, who is currently in the 8th grade at McDowell Middle School. After graduating, Matt served in the United States Marine Corps from 1997 to 2002 and received an Honorable Discharge at the rank of Sergeant. Since 2002, he has been employed at Mistras Group, Inc., where he currently serves as the Director of Radiation Safety for operations across the United States and Canada. Matt also serves as a board member of Pickaway-Ross Career & Technology Center as the representative for the Pickaway County Educational Service Center.
Michael Agosta: Board Member
Michael Agosta was elected to the Logan Elm Board of Education in November 2023, commencing his term on January 8, 2024. Having lived in the Logan Elm School District with his wife, Angela, since 1992, Michael is an active participant in the Buildings and Grounds and Finance Committees and serves as the Logan Elm JEDD Representative. Michael previously served on the Logan Elm School Board for 8 years. His educational background includes an associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from Hocking College, a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Franklin University. He is currently employed by PHPK Technologies in Columbus, Ohio, as V.P. of Engineering and General Manager. In addition to being a Pickaway County Fellow, he serves on the Ohio Retail Food Safety Advisory Council (RFSAC). He is also a past president and coach for Logan Elm Youth Football and served as Treasurer for the Washington Elementary PTO, as well as coaching youth basketball and baseball. Michael and Angela have three children: Adam, a 2014 Logan Elm graduate, completed an Electrical Engineering Degree from The Ohio State University while enrolled in the Navy ROTC program and is now a commissioned officer and pilot in the United States Navy; Matthew and Rachel, both 2017 Logan Elm graduates. Matthew completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering while running Cross Country for Ohio University and is currently employed by a defense contractor in San Diego, California. Rachel completed an Integrated Math Degree at Ohio University and is teaching high school math in Chicago. Michael is proud to have been a part of passing the bond issue for the new school while serving on the Board. He emphasizes the value of education and that learning is a never-ending lifelong process.

Nikki Jackson: Board Member
Nikki Jackson was appointed to the Board of Education on February 20, 2024. She contributes to the Policy and Communications committees. Nikki and her husband, Nate, have been residents of Logan Elm District for most of their lives. Nikki attended Pickaway Elementary and is a 1999 graduate of Logan Elm. Nate graduated from Logan Elm in 1996. They have five children: Madi, Nora, Sophia, Juliette and Roman. After graduating high school, Nikki attended CCAD in Columbus, Ohio. She transferred to The Academy of Art in San Francisco, CA where she received a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree. Nikki returned to Ohio and started a small central Ohio based bridal makeup business. In addition to her business, she is a stay-at-home mother dedicated to supporting her community. Nikki is president of the Logan Elm youth football program.
Heidi White: Board Member
Heidi White was elected to the Logan Elm Board of Education in November 2019 and began her term in January 2020. She is a member of the Policy, Communication, and Personnel committees. Heidi has been a resident of the district since 2001. She is married to John White (LE Class of 1989) and they have two children, daughter Peri and son, Sawyer. Heidi is a graduate of Zane Trace High School and has a BS in Human & Consumer Sciences, specializing in Dietetic and Food Service management, from Ohio University.
Key Responsibilities and Objectives
The Logan Elm Board of Education is entrusted with several critical responsibilities, all aimed at providing the best possible educational experience for students. These include:
- Policy Setting: Establishing and revising policies that govern the operation of the school district. These policies cover a wide range of topics, from curriculum and student conduct to personnel and financial management.
- Financial Oversight: Managing the district's finances responsibly, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to support student learning and district operations. This includes developing and approving the annual budget, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring compliance with all financial regulations.

- Superintendent Oversight: Overseeing the work of the District Superintendent, ensuring that the goals of the board are met, and the district is adhering to the policies set forth by the board.
2024-2025 Goals and Achievements
The Benjamin Logan Board of Education met in regular session on Monday night and was updated on how the district performed in achieving the goals the board established for the 2024-2025 school year. District Superintendent John Scheu reminded the board of the goals set for the 2024-2025 school year: achieving a 4.5 or better overall rating on the Ohio School Report Card, ending Fiscal Year 2025 with revenues exceeding expenditures, 100% of teachers and administrators trained in Science of Reading by June 30, 2025, maximize student learning with time on task, and communicate with the community on school-related topics. Superintendent Scheu informed the board that the district met each of the goals. The board also approved the financial report submitted by District Treasurer/CFO Leah Baker, who stated that the district ended the fiscal year with a carryover balance exceeding $64,000.
