TRIO Student Support Services (SSS)
TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a program funded by the Department of Education that provides an array of services and strategies to support students on their college journey. Research indicates that students who participate in TRIO SSS programs are more likely to excel in college. The program selects currently enrolled motivated students who are first-generation, income-eligible (based upon federal guidelines), or have a documented disability. Space is limited in this program.
Financial Aid Support
LSC-Kingwood provides support to students who receive full Pell grants, helping them navigate college with limited financial resources. This includes explaining financial aid options and equipping students with financial literacy. Understanding how to apply for financial aid is a crucial first step in securing grants and scholarships.
Disability Services
Lone Star College is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to college students with disabilities through the Office of Disability Services. Recognizing that students may experience both visible and invisible challenges, the college strives to create an inclusive and accessible learning environment.
Admission Information
Admission to certain programs may be competitive, based on factors such as GPA, completion of lower-division coursework, and work history.
Addressing Common Challenges
Navigating the college process can be frustrating, especially for first-generation students (those whose parents did not receive a degree from a four-year college or university). LSC-Kingwood offers resources and support to help these students successfully navigate their academic journey.
