Campuses and Locations

UC3M has four campuses, each with its unique characteristics:

Getafe: Located in the town of Getafe, about 13 kilometers south of Madrid, this campus houses the School of Social Sciences and Law and part of the School of Humanities.
Leganés: Situated in Leganés, approximately 11 kilometers southeast of Madrid, this campus is home to the School of Engineering.

The UC3M has modern facilities for practicing sports that include a swimming pool, spa, paddle tennis courts, tennis, squash, bouldering, climbing wall, 7-a-side football and beach volleyball fields, indoor cycling and fitness rooms and multipurpose rooms for sports practice of different activities.

Carlos III University has paired up with Sociedad Público de Alquiler to supply and help the university community members to find accommodations. Living options include student dorms, halls of residence, apartment rentals and a homestay program. Students may apply for on-campus accommodation. Living in Getafe (where most exchange students attend to classes) or living in Madrid are both viable options. Living close to the campus is normally a cheaper option, and provides students with a much more "authentic" Spanish experience living in a local neighborhood.

UC3M is recognized as one of the most internationalized universities in Madrid and Europe. Nearly 20% of the student body is made up of international students. The university promotes Erasmus + mobility and actively participates in the YUFE Alliance, fostering collaboration among young European universities. Madrid as a Student City

Madrid is a very lively city and houses many libraries, universities, museums (check out El Prado), art galleries, theaters, cinemas and congress halls for cultural events. Historical monuments and attractions of the old area of Madrid are also of great interest, especially those that were built under Austrian and Bourbon rule. Students may enjoy Madrid’s nightlife including shows, pubs and cabarets.

Students can purchase a metrobus ticket, which is valid for ten rides on either the bus or metro system, or a transport card (abono de transportes) that permits unlimited travel using any combination of public transport. This card covers the route between the center of Madrid and the Carlos III University area.

Funding and Social Commitment

Public universities in Spain occupy a large share of the national budget. Almost 80% of the funding for public universities is borne by the taxpayers, with student fees accounting for most of the remainder of this funding. The UC3M as with all other public universities received government funding, so students' tuition fees are a small percentage of the actual education costs. The UC3M Foundation is a private nonprofit organization.
