A Glimpse into the Future: Intern Perspectives
Nick Hay, a former Micron intern who worked at the Micron Chip Fab in Virginia, enthusiastically shared his experience: "I loved it. Everyone I worked with was helpful and encouraging. For certain projects, my mentor made me take the reins and said, 'This is your problem.' It was motivating knowing they had that much faith in me to do it by myself and figure it out." Hay's internship provided him with hands-on experience and the confidence to tackle complex challenges. He will complete his Electromechanical Technology degree and begin working at Micron full-time.
Justin Kuneman, another former intern who worked at Micron's Boise, Idaho Chip Fab, echoed Hay's sentiment: "There were so many things there I could recognize and interact with. I didn't feel like they had to teach me everything. A lot of it was surprisingly familiar considering the complexity of stuff going on there." Kuneman's internship allowed him to apply his knowledge and skills in a real-world setting, solidifying his understanding of the industry. Kuneman will wrap up his Electromechanical Technology degree and begin working at Micron in Boise full-time.
Process Control Engineering Internship: A Deep Dive
One intern who worked as a Process Control Engineering intern shared their experiences. As an Electrical & Computer Engineering student, they had always been curious about the semiconductor industry and the many ways their major could be applied. They took a course to tackle the learning curve head-on, as they didn’t know much about Process Control at first.

During their time at Micron, the intern got to use their skills to design and implement solutions to reduce process variation and develop systems that simplify process control tasks. They also learned the importance of communication and resilience, understanding the importance of being able to voice their thoughts and ask questions, especially when getting stuck on a problem. One of their biggest takeaways from this experience was learning to embrace their mistakes and grow from them.
Beyond the Technical: A Holistic Experience
Micron internships offer more than just technical training. Interns have the opportunity to make new friends from all over the country, attend intern events, explore the local area, and participate in unique experiences. The Process Control Engineering intern got to attend a talk with the CEO, Sanjay Mehrotra, a tour of the Micron fab, and Top Golf!
