Admission to the Nursing Program
Admission into the nursing program is competitive. The Dr. Stuart H. & Sandra K. Fine Nursing Program is a selective application-based program limited to 192 students each semester. Meeting minimum score requirements is essential, and exceeding them enhances an applicant's competitiveness. Factors considered include background, prior course work, grade point average, and existing degrees.
Application Process
The application deadline for the Transition to Nursing Course is always March 1. A recommendation from a current supervisor may be required.

TEAS Exam
The College is offering the TEAS® exam. To take the TEAS® exam and to attend the Dr. Stuart H. & Sandra K. Fine Nursing Program you must view an information session for nursing and meet the special admissions requirements.
Temporary Major
Students who plan to major in nursing will be assigned the temporary major of pre-nursing, with POS code 570, until they are officially admitted to the nursing program. During the waiting period, students may take preparatory courses and courses that fulfill general education requirements. As an alternative to being assigned a temporary major, students waiting for admission to the nursing program may choose to major in general studies or any other open-admission program.
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)
The basic nursing curriculum covers two academic years. The nursing curriculum depends on proper sequencing of courses that must be taken first. Upon successful completion of the curriculum, the graduate is granted the AS in nursing and is eligible to take the state board examination for registered nurse licensure (NCLEX-RN®).

The nursing curriculum depends on proper sequencing of courses. Students who need to complete developmental levels or take prerequisite courses will take longer to complete a degree in math and science.
Program Outcomes
Graduates will be prepared to give competent nursing care to patients in hospitals, nursing homes, and other comparable health agencies under the supervision of more experienced practitioners and, with appropriate experience and further preparation, should be able to assume increasing responsibility in nursing.

Practical Nursing (PN) Program
Montgomery College also offers a Practical Nursing (PN) program. The Practical Nursing (PN) curriculum, approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing, covers the essential education for the licensed practical nurse (LPN).
Curriculum and Clinical Experience
This program prepares students to deliver competent nursing care as part of a team with registered nurses (RNs), other LPNs, and certified nursing assistants (CNAs) in both acute care and long-term care environments. Clinical courses take place in a variety of healthcare facilities in the region, according to the course’s focus.
Admission Requirements and Application
This is a selective program with specific admissions requirements. Applications should be received in the Records and Registration Office by April 1 for fall semester, by August 1 for spring semester and December 1 for summer session I.
Post-Acceptance Requirements
After acceptance into the Practical Nursing Program, all students must obtain current CPR certification for “Healthcare Provider” or “Professional Rescuer” as well as a TB test or chest X-ray showing no evidence of tubercular disease. Clinical agencies require documented evidence (titers) of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and hepatitis B (immunization series may be in progress with titer obtained at its conclusion).

Practical Nursing Certificate for New Students
The following PN curriculum is for new students applying to the program. Students must complete the pre-admission courses below and may take required open enrollment courses prior to admission (ENGL 101 and PSYC 100). PN students are required to achieve a grade of C or better in each nursing course to continue in the program.

The following PN curriculum is for students transitioning from the nursing associate of science. PN students are required to achieve a grade of C or better in each nursing course to continue in the program.

Program Outcomes for PN Program
Upon completion of this program, a student will be able to:
- Apply legal and ethical standards and adhere to professional codes of conduct of LPN practice.
- Utilize clinical reasoning skills to provide safe and effective care within the LPN scope.
- Prioritize the needs and preferences of patients, incorporating cultural, spiritual, and ethical considerations into their care.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with RNs, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to promote patient outcomes and interdisciplinary care.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of electronic health records (EHRs), medical devices, and other technological tools relevant to the LPN scope of practice.
- Identify and implement safety measures to prevent injury or harm to patients, themselves, and others in the healthcare environment.
Transitioning from LPN to RN
Montgomery College provides pathways for LPNs to advance their careers. There are two options for programs of study for LPN’s. First option is to enter using the same pathway as our traditional students.
Transition to Nursing Course
Workers into the associate's degree in nursing (ADN) program. drawn from the first year of the traditional ADN program. additional semesters. This option is available to LPNs.
Progression and Completion
Zero exemptions. To progress through the program. You will have 6 semesters to complete the Dr. Stuart H. & Sandra K. Fine Nursing Program may be completed on a full- or part-time basis.
Transfer and Articulation Agreements
Montgomery College has articulation agreements with universities to facilitate the transfer of nursing credits to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. Academic advising helps students reach their educational and career goals. Students are kept on track to graduate and/or transfer. Graduates can transfer to four-years institutions and earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Earning an A.A. competitive Nursing programs. Education courses that are required for admission to your chosen institution. 212, BIOL 213, CHEM 131, MATH 117. 226, MATH 120 are typically required for admission to most BSN programs.
Intent to Register
Using an Intent to Register and randomization process. The Dr. Stuart H. & Sandra K. Fine Nursing Program does not carry over waitlisted applicants to the next open registration period. Form available from March 1st.
Additional Information
CPR Certification and Health Requirements
After acceptance into the nursing program, all students must obtain current CPR certification for “Healthcare Provider” or “Professional Rescuer” as well as a TB test or chest X-ray showing no evidence of tubercular disease. Clinical agencies require documented evidence (titers) of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and hepatitis B (immunization series may be in progress with titer obtained at its conclusion). The Covid vaccine may also be required. A background check may be necessary prior to entering the clinical component of the Dr. Stuart H. & Sandra K. Fine Nursing Program.
