The Moorpark College Library, situated on the second and third floors of the Library Learning Resources building (LLR), serves as a central hub for academic exploration and research. Designed to meet the diverse curriculum needs of the college community, the library offers a comprehensive collection of resources and services to support students, faculty, and staff.

Comprehensive Collection and Facilities

The library boasts a substantial collection, comprising approximately 77,000 volumes and over 140 periodical subscriptions. Recognizing the evolving landscape of information access, the library provides access to 88 electronic databases. These databases unlock a wealth of resources, including eBooks, streaming video, digital audiobooks, newspaper and magazine articles, scholarly journal articles, and literary criticism.

Beyond its digital holdings, the library maintains a robust physical collection. In addition to books, the physical collection includes equipment (laptops, hotspots, calculators, and headphones). Textbooks are available in our Textbook Lending Collection and in Course Reserves. The library’s collection also holds microfilm, music and books on CDs, and DVDs.

  • Academic Search Complete: A comprehensive database featuring peer-reviewed articles from nearly 13,000 academic journals spanning the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature, and other subjects. Many articles are available in full-text, in both PDF and HTML formats.

  • Flipster: This next-generation digital magazine distribution service allows users to access their favorite magazines from various publishers through the library.

  • Gale eBooks: A collection of encyclopedias and specialized reference volumes in ebook format for multidisciplinary research. The diverse subject areas include Arts, Literature, Biography, Sciences, and Social Sciences. These reference materials, originally published in print format, are now accessible electronically and can be searched by keyword, article title, or subject.

  • Newsstream: A valuable resource for news content, offering archives stretching back to the 1980s. It features newspapers, newswires, blogs, and news sites in active full-text format. The Moorpark College Library offers a range of services to enhance the learning and research experience:

Reference Services

The library's Reference Desk is staffed by faculty librarians who provide expert assistance with research inquiries. Students can also schedule appointments for personalized consultations with librarians, either in person or online. Furthermore, librarians offer instruction sessions to classes upon instructor request, tailoring their guidance to specific course needs.

Checkout Privileges

The library extends its resources to the entire community; however, borrowing privileges are reserved for registered Moorpark College students. A student's ID number serves as their library card, and students may be required to present valid identification and a class schedule if their name is not yet in the library's database. Students can check out up to ten items at a time, with a standard loan period of three weeks for most materials.

Computers, Printing, and Photocopying

The library provides access to over 100 computers equipped with internet connectivity, Microsoft Office, and other educational software. Computer use is free, but printing incurs a charge of $0.10 per page. Payment for printing can be made via credit card, debit card, or by purchasing a print card for $1.10. Photocopies are also available at $0.10 per page.

Study Areas

The library offers a variety of study environments to suit different learning styles. Tables, individual study carrels, and group study rooms are located on both the second and third floors of the LLR building. Reservations are mandatory for study room access. Select carrels and study rooms are equipped with video monitors and DVD/Blu-ray players for viewing audiovisual resources.

Reserve Materials

Instructors may place textbooks and other essential materials "on reserve" at the library. These materials can be checked out for a limited period for use within the library.

Textbook Lending Program

The library offers a Textbook Lending Program, providing access to select textbooks for the entire semester. Enrollment in the applicable course is a prerequisite for participation in this program.

Equipment Lending Program

The library's Equipment Lending Program offers students access to essential technology, including laptops, Wi-Fi hotspots, and scientific calculators.

Important Notice for Faculty

Faculty members should be aware that links to Moorpark College Library databases, articles, and videos will be updated in Spring 2024. Instructors are encouraged to regularly review their syllabi and Canvas shells to ensure that all content remains accessible to students.
