National Pan-Hellenic Council Scholarships: Requirements and Opportunities
The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) offer various scholarship opportunities to support students' academic pursuits. These scholarships aim to recognize and reward students who demonstrate a commitment to scholarship, leadership, community service, and the values of their respective organizations. National Panhellenic Conference Foundation Scholarships
The National Panhellenic Conference Foundation offers scholarships to outstanding Panhellenic women. The scholarship application period typically runs from early December to mid-March each year, with recipients announced in mid-to-late June. Funds are distributed at the beginning of the fall term.
Several specific scholarships are available through the NPC Foundation, including:
- The Alpha Phi/Betty Mullins Jones Scholarship: Established by the Alpha Phi Foundation to honor Betty Mullins Jones’ commitment to the National Panhellenic Conference. This scholarship is awarded annually to a collegiate Panhellenic woman who has worked to further her fraternal community’s reputation on her campus and who embodies the values of sisterhood, philanthropy, and scholarship.
- The Elizabeth Ahlemeyer Quick/Gamma Phi Beta Scholarship: This scholarship was established to honor Elizabeth “Betty” Quick’s long and devoted service to both NPC and Gamma Phi Beta. It is awarded annually to a collegiate member in good standing of one of the NPC member organizations. Nomination is required by College Panhellenic, and the nominee must have displayed outstanding service to her local College Panhellenic.
- The Mary Louise Roller Scholarship: This $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a collegiate member in good standing of a Panhellenic organization who has served in a chapter or Panhellenic leadership role. Named for Mary Louise Roller, this scholarship was funded by Alpha Omicron Pi in honor of Mrs. Roller’s 33-year tenure on Alpha Omicron Pi’s Panhellenic Delegation. The scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate woman who plans to attend graduate school the following fall. Each recipient shall have displayed outstanding service to her local College Panhellenic during her undergraduate years.
- The Phoenix Panhellenic Association Centennial Scholarship: Funded in honor of the Phoenix Panhellenic Association’s centennial, this scholarship is typically awarded annually. Collegiate applicants must be a member in good standing at one of the following: Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona or Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Prescott.
- The Sigma Kappa Courage and Conviction Scholarship: Funded by Sigma Kappa in honor of Donna Crain King’s service as 2015-17 NPC chairman, this $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually.
National Pan-Hellenic Council of Washington, DC (DCNPHC) Scholarships
The National Pan-Hellenic Council of Washington, DC (DCNPHC), in collaboration with the Frederick Douglass Memorial and Historical Association (FDMHA), offers the DCNPHC-FDMHA High School Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from a District of Columbia public or charter high school who will enroll in an accredited institution of higher learning in the fall of 2025. The institution may include a college, university, trade school, or other educational establishment beyond high school.
The purpose of the scholarship is to promote the legacy of Frederick Douglass. The scholarship awardee will be notified by June 14, 2025, of their selection to receive a scholarship. One first-place scholarship for $5,000 will be awarded to one student. Three second-place scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded to multiple students. Proof of enrollment for the fall semester is required prior to award disbursement.

Applicants are required to submit a 500-word essay on one of the following topics:
- How did one of the Historically Black Fraternities or Sororities in the Divine Nine shape your decision to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) or other institution of higher learning?
- How did the life of Frederick Douglass inspire your educational and career goals? How may these decisions support your community in the same way Frederick Douglass influenced African Americans nationwide?
- Frederick Douglass advocated for political change by publishing, speaking, and protesting for the rights of African Americans.
General NPHC Scholarship Requirements
While specific requirements may vary depending on the local NPHC chapter or organization, some general requirements for NPHC scholarships include:
- Membership: Applicant must be a college student and member of an NPHC-member organization attending a four-year college/university in the fall of 2025.
- Academic Standing: A strong dedication to their educational institution.
- Leadership, Scholarship, Dependability and Service: Applicant must possess qualities of leadership, scholarship, dependability and service.
- Community Service: Verification of a minimum of 3 months continuous community service in the current school year above and beyond service initiatives implemented by the undergraduate chapter of membership.
- Letters of Recommendation:
- A letter of recommendation from a person in the community that can verify community service activities (i.e. volunteer coordinator, etc.).
- A letter of recommendation from your chapter’s Graduate Advisor that provides detailed information on the applicant’s character, leadership skills, and involvement in the applicant’s respective organization.
- Proof of Enrollment: Scholarship awards checks are made payable to the student and are dispersed upon submission of proof of college enrollment by the student and/or official (sealed) transcripts. This is typically a letter from your institution's Enrollment Management.
- Attendance: Scholarship recipients are expected to attend the NPHC Scholarship Recognition Program, which will be held April 2025.
Macon-Middle Georgia National Pan-Hellenic Council (MMG-NPHC) Scholarships
The Macon-Middle Georgia National Pan-Hellenic Council (MMG-NPHC) Scholarships are intended for students who have demonstrated a strong dedication to their educational institution and local community.
Who's Eligible: College bound high school seniors residing and enrolled in schools within the Macon-Bibb and Monroe School Districts. The student must be accepted into a two or four year college | university.
NPC Centennial Scholarships Program
The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) plans to award 10 college scholarships of $2,000 each annually through our new NPC Centennial Scholarships Program. High school women graduating in spring 2025 and attending college in fall 2025 are eligible for these scholarships.

Additional Considerations
- Application Deadlines: Pay close attention to application deadlines, as late or incomplete applications will not be considered. For example, the application for the DCNPHC-FDMHA High School Scholarship is due by Friday, June 7, 2025. Applications that are incomplete or submitted after 11:59 pm on March 31, 2025 will not be eligible for consideration.
- Essay Requirements: Carefully review the essay prompts and ensure your essay is well-written, thoughtful, and addresses the specific requirements. Be sure that your essay is typed in 11 or 12 pt size, legible font, and double-spaced.
- Letter of Recommendation Guidelines: Provide contact information for an individual who can provide a letter of support/recommendation. The individual providing the letter should hold the scholarship applicant in high regard and be able to speak clearly about the student’s commitment to high academic achievement, school activities and community involvement. Recommendation letters should include: length of time working with student, insight to student’s character, testament to student’s community service involvement, etc.

NPHC and WKU
NPHC believes in supporting the academic mission of the institution, being one of the values of the NPHC. NPHC does not have a formal recruitment process.
