Navigating the NCAA Gymnastics Regional Schedule: A Comprehensive Guide

The NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships are a highly anticipated event, showcasing the athleticism and artistry of collegiate gymnasts. Understanding the regional schedule is crucial for fans, athletes, and coaches alike. This article provides a detailed overview of the NCAA Gymnastics Regional Schedule, format, and advancements.

Regional Structure and Selection

The championship provides for a field of 36 teams determined based on their National Qualifying Score (NQS). Four regionals consisting of 9 teams and approximately three all-around competitors (not on a qualifying team), and four individual specialists per event (not on a qualifying team) will be conducted at predetermined campus sites. The selection of teams for the NCAA Lexington Regional will be announced on March 23, 2026, during the NCAA Selection Show broadcast on ESPNU.

Competition Format

The regional competition consists of three rounds. The first round will consist of two teams, the second round will consist of eight teams and individuals, and the regional final will consist of four teams. At each regional, the top team in round one qualifies to round two; the top two teams in each session in round two qualify to the final round; and the top two teams in the final round qualify to the national championship. Individuals will compete in the second round at regionals. Scores achieved in the second round will be used to determine advancing individuals once the regional final is finished (to account for individuals on teams that are eliminated in the regional final) and then the top all-arounder (not on an advancing team) and top specialist for each event (not on an advancing team) will advance to the national championship, in that event only.

Rotation Order

Beginning with the 2026 championship season, all teams will select their competition rotation order based on their National Qualifying Score (NQS) rankings. The highest-ranked team in each session will have the first opportunity to select its starting event. The competition will continue to follow Olympic order (vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise).
