With the beginning of August comes the end of the 2024 NCR Voyix summer internship cycle. In May, 105 interns were welcomed, predominantly juniors and seniors from colleges and universities all over the country, into roles across the company, from HR to Software Engineering to Operations and more. Over the course of the summer, each intern was onboarded into their individual team and took on important functional roles; in addition, they each worked on a specialized group project, focused on a problem or opportunity, which they presented at the Intern Expo on July 31. Internships and University Recruitment practices at NCR Voyix have been highly ranked by a variety of organizations, including the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and WayUp, as well as by the University of Georgia and Georgia State University, among others. For many interns, their summer at NCR Voyix can be the first step on a path to full-time employment at the company; for others, the experience that they gain opens doors at other noteworthy employers. As this class of interns prepares to return to their studies, we caught up with some of them to ask about what they learned and accomplished over the last ten weeks.

Responsibility and Impact

A key aspect of the NCR Voyix internship is the level of responsibility entrusted to the interns. Students are given full ownership of their projects, allowing them to make a tangible difference within the company. This approach fosters a sense of ownership and encourages interns to take initiative and contribute their unique perspectives. As one intern noted, they appreciated being given a project “that made a difference to the company and actually created value -- not just busy work.”

Laila Hanson, from the Hospitality team, shared that her experience has helped her professional ambitions evolve and helped her “learn to get comfortable in the uncomfortable.”

Matthew Lescota, who spent the summer “learning a completely new SaaS ecosystem” on the IT team, counts among the benefits of his role the connections he’s been able to make, and Macie Smith, an intern on the Digital Banking team, took advantage of her time at a large company by embracing the corporate culture.

Asfa Karim, who joined the Retail Marketing team, noted, “Initially, we struggled with communication and clarity on who was responsible for what [in the group project],” said Asfa. “However, we managed to overcome this by implementing effective communication strategies and fostering a collaborative team environment, which significantly improved our productivity and project outcomes.”

Interns consistently highlight the positive work environment, the helpfulness of colleagues, and the accessibility of mentors. The environment was welcoming, coworkers felt like your family, always asking and keeping up to date on how everyone is doing, and the office was beautiful.

NCR Voyix invests in its interns by providing a range of learning opportunities, including speaker series, manufacturing plant tours, and lunch and learns. If any interns wanted to learn something not in their specific area of department, others were always willing to help. You may find a new sector of your career field that you're interested in pursuing!”

Contributing to Innovation

Interns at NCR Voyix are not just doing grunt work; they are contributing to innovative projects that address real-world challenges. For Zexuan Wei, who worked on Digital Banking, the focus of the summer was incorporating AI technology into the banking world. Nikhil Dasari on the Operations team tackled “forecast efficiency for [SMBs],” a task that he says "has made me realize that this is something I want to pursue and am excited for in the future.”
