Nevada Hunter Education Requirements: A Comprehensive Guide

Nevada's diverse landscapes offer numerous hunting opportunities, from the rugged mountains to the expansive deserts. To ensure responsible and safe hunting practices, Nevada law requires hunter education for many individuals. This article provides a comprehensive overview of Nevada's hunter education requirements, covering who needs it, how to obtain certification, and other important details.

Who Needs Hunter Education in Nevada?

Nevada law is clear: Anyone born after January 1, 1960, is required to provide proof of hunter education to purchase a Nevada hunting license. This regulation ensures that all hunters have a foundational understanding of hunting safety, ethics, and wildlife conservation.

Hunter Education Certificate: What is it?

A hunter education certificate proves you have successfully completed a hunter education course. The department requires proof of hunter education to purchase a hunting license and it must be on your online account to submit tag applications.

Early sign-up is encouraged. The workbook or online course must be 100% complete before attending the class. There is no minimum age required to take the class, however, students under the age of 18 are required to attend with an adult. The parent(s) or guardian(s) of minor students are required to check-in the minor student(s) with NDOW instructor(s) at the beginning of class and pick-up their student(s) from the instructor(s) at class end. Under no circumstances are minor students to be dropped off or picked up without notifying the instructor(s). Parents or guardians are also solely responsible for student transportation and should notify the instructor(s) at the beginning of class if someone other than a parent or guardian is picking up the student after class.

Online-Only Option for Adults (18+)

Nevada now offers an online-only option for those students who are 18 years and older. You can complete all the required hunter education training online and then print your Nevada Student Certificate after successful completion and payment for the course.
