Nusenda Credit Union: Empowering New Mexicans Through Innovative Financial Services

Nusenda Credit Union, formerly known as New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union, stands as a testament to the power of community-focused financial institutions. Headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, this not-for-profit credit union has dedicated nearly a century to serving its members' financial needs. Regulated under the authority of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), Nusenda operates as a federally-chartered credit union. Built on a foundation of reinvention and innovation, Nusenda offers a comprehensive suite of services that rival those of larger banks, while simultaneously providing its members with unique advantages and a commitment to their financial well-being.

A Legacy of Service and Growth

The story of Nusenda Credit Union began in 1936, when it was established as the Albuquerque Public Schools Federal Credit Union. Operating initially from the office of the secretary at Albuquerque High School, the credit union served a specific segment of the community. Over time, its field of membership expanded to include employees of Albuquerque Technical-Vocational Institute in 1968, followed by employees of the University of New Mexico and University of New Mexico Hospital in 1978. This growth necessitated a name change in 1982, reflecting the credit union's broader reach within the education sector, becoming the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union. Further expansion occurred in 1984, when members of La Montañita Food Co-op became eligible for membership. Over the years, the credit union membership expanded to assure the strength and stability of the cooperative. Soon others were eligible to become members, including employees and students of other schools both in Albuquerque and nearby Los Lunas and Bernalillo.

A Transformation to Nusenda

In 2015, the credit union underwent a significant transformation, changing its name to Nusenda Credit Union. This rebranding reflected the institution's expanding capabilities and its commitment to serving a wider range of individuals and businesses across New Mexico. Today, Nusenda offers more than 600 ways to join its cooperative, solidifying its position as a leading financial institution in the state. Building on nearly a century of experience, relationships and stability, we strive to continue our tradition of evolving to serve our members better.

Services and Benefits

Nusenda Credit Union distinguishes itself by prioritizing the financial well-being of its members. As a credit union, it operates on a not-for-profit basis, allowing it to offer higher savings rates and lower loan rates compared to traditional banks. This structure ensures that the benefits of the institution's success are directly passed on to its members. Furthermore, Nusenda provides secure money management tools, empowering members to take control of their finances and achieve their financial goals.

Nusenda offers a wide range of services comparable to those of big banks, while also providing added benefits to their members. With a focus on community and member empowerment, Nusenda Credit Union goes beyond traditional banking services. They offer opportunities for members to earn returns by consolidating their financial relationships and provide community rewards programs that benefit both individuals and their communities.
