Typically, the average high school GPA for admitted students at SUNY New Paltz is around 3.55 (unweighted). This figure indicates that most students who are accepted have a strong academic background. This means you'll need a mix of A's and B's, and very few C's.

Typically, these schools say, "if you feel your SAT or ACT score represents you well as a student, submit them. Despite this policy, the truth is that most students still take the SAT or ACT, and most applicants to SUNY New Paltz will submit their scores. If you don't submit scores, you'll have one fewer dimension to show that you're worthy of being admitted, compared to other students.
For those who choose to submit SAT scores, the 25th percentile SAT score is 1190, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1330. In other words, a 1190 places you below average, while a 1330 will move you up to above average. Scoring at a 1240 SAT or above will already give you a great shot at getting in.

Therefore, if your SAT superscore is currently below a 1240, we strongly recommend that you consider prepping for the SAT and retaking it. Even better, because of the Superscore, you can focus all your energy on a single section at a time. If your Reading score is lower than your other sections, prep only for the Reading section, then take the SAT. Then focus on Math for the next test, and so on.

By and large, most colleges do not superscore the ACT. (Superscore means that the school takes your best section scores from all the test dates you submit, and then combines them into the best possible composite score). We weren't able to find the school's exact ACT policy, which most likely means that it does not Superscore.
Essay
SUNY New Paltz considers the SAT Essay/ACT Writing section optional and may not include it as part of their admissions consideration.

Students may declare a major in Early Childhood & Childhood Education during their first year. Completion of State-mandated workshops (Child Abuse Identification, SAVE, DASA, Health & Safety Education. Due to the highly structured and sequenced nature of the Early Childhood & Childhood Education (B-6) program, students who intend to transfer to New Paltz must plan their transfer coursework carefully. Several General Education requirements should be fulfilled under advisement by specific courses that also serve as education foundation courses.
How to Apply
Complete either the Common Application or the SUNY Application. The $50 application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. The SUNY Application fee is waived for SUNY or CUNY associate degree holders. Transfer students are encouraged to consult the SUNY Transfer Path for their major of interest.
Deadlines
For Early Action admission, the application and all required application materials must be received complete by November 15.
