From on-campus jobs to internships and career counseling, NIU is committed to supporting students in their professional development. A job during the academic year is a good way to help with expenses, and offers plenty of perks. As an NIU student, you have access to jobs both on campus and off through our free online job board Huskies Get Hired your first semester, throughout your NIU journey and even after graduation.

On-Campus Employment

For students seeking convenient and accessible employment options, NIU offers a variety of on-campus jobs. These positions provide a number of advantages, including short commutes and the opportunity to work within the university community.

Residential Facilities Positions

Residential Facilities maintains all the residence halls at NIU. Working in Housing and Residential Services can be a great way to get involved on campus. As an employee in this office, you will work on a team with fellow undergraduate students, graduate assistants and full-time staff.

One such position is the WRO student worker. The WRO student worker position requires the applicant have the ability to work in a team setting, follow specific orders and work in an office and out in the field setting. Some of these duties require minor physical labor and periods of time standing. The pay for this position is $15.25 per hour. Note that at the time of this writing, applications for this position are not being accepted.

International Student Employment

NIU provides specific guidance for international students seeking on-campus employment. If you are an F-1 student, and you are maintaining your immigration status (which means following the rules and regulations of the immigration service), you may work on campus once you enroll for your first semester. J-1 students may work under certain circumstances. Student workers on campus are permitted to work 20 hours per week during the semester; full-time work is permitted during breaks. Human Resource Services maintains a listing of available student job opportunities.
