Navigating the NJIT Student Portal: A Comprehensive Guide

Welcome to the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT)! This guide aims to provide you with a comprehensive overview of the essential steps and resources available through the NJIT student portal, empowering you to navigate your academic journey successfully.

Claiming Your UCID and Setting Up Duo Authentication

Your University Computing ID (UCID) is your key to accessing NJIT's online services.

  1. Click the red "Claim Your UCID" button and follow the instructions to complete your account setup.
  2. Once you claim your UCID you will be prompted to set up Duo Two-Factor Authentication upon next login. Here is a PDF Guide which will walk you through setting up Duo on your mobile phone.
  3. Go to my.njit.edu.

Financial Aid and FAFSA

Understanding and securing financial aid is a crucial step in financing your education. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a primary tool for accessing financial assistance.

  • If you have not done so already, submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure to list NJIT’s federal school code (002621). We strongly recommend using the IRS Data Retrieval tool to avoid delays in processing.
  • Financial aid awards are sent to all students who have filed the FAFSA or New Jersey Alternative Application.

Transfer Credits and Placement Assessments

For transfer students, the evaluation of prior coursework is an important step in determining your academic standing at NJIT.

  • Once your official transcript(s) and AP/IB scores have been received, NJIT will begin the credit evaluation process. Transcripts uploaded by you as part of the admissions process are deemed unofficial. This document will outline what credits were accepted by the university and how the credits will apply to your new degree.
  • College-level courses taken while in high school require submission of an official transcript(s) from the Registrar’s Office of the university/college(s) that the course was through.
  • Transfer students who do not receive transfer credits for the first-level of English and/or mathematics (Pre-Calculus or Calculus) are required to take the placement assessment. It is in your best interest to take your placement assessment(s) as soon as possible in order to register early and for the appropriate courses.
  • You must claim your UCID at least 48 hours prior to taking the placement assessment if you have not already done so. Complete your Placement Assessments.

In addition to the score, which is only visible to the course instructor, Ally provides feedback on what could be done to improve the accessibility of the course material. Ally provides students with the option to download course materials in alternative formats. These include, but are not limited to tagged PDF, HTML, ePub, Electronic braille, and audio formats. These alternative formats are generated automatically by Ally and do not require any additional work/intervention from the instructor. NJIT is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive learning environment for all students. By creating processes that improve accessibility, we acknowledge and demonstrate that commitment to our community. Course content must be accessible to everyone in order to provide equal access and equal opportunity to students with disabilities. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, as administered and monitored for compliance through the Office of Civil Rights mandates web accessibility. This legal foundation outlines the broad requirements that higher education institutions must meet to be in compliance with the ADA. While Ally use is optional, instructors are encouraged to look at their Ally Course Accessibility Report and/or the accessibility score for individual files.
  • Harmonize is a discussion and collaboration tool that integrates with Canvas to improve student engagement in your online discussions, all while saving you, the instructor, time with grading and managing your classroom. Important Reminder for Prospective Students

As a Senior Admissions Specialist at HBKU, I want to offer a friendly but important reminder to all prospective students. Recently, we’ve noticed some confusion stemming from false advertisements about scholarships.

*Applying for admission to our university is about joining a rigorous academic environment and it is not a guarantee of a scholarship. We are an educational institution, not a charity.

*Please ensure that your application is filled out with all required details. This includes accurate personal information, academic history, and any supporting documents.

*There is an application fee that all applicants must pay. The only exceptions are for those who have a very valid reason for financial hardship and constraint. THIS IS not the same as applying for a scholarship.

In short, we want you to approach your application with the seriousness it deserves. We’re here to support your educational journey, but it starts with a clear understanding of the process.
