Understanding NMSU Tuition and Fees: A Comprehensive Guide
New Mexico State University (NMSU) is committed to providing accessible educational opportunities for students. This article offers a detailed breakdown of NMSU's tuition, fees, and associated costs, along with available financial aid options.
Tuition Structure at NMSU
Tuition at NMSU is determined by several factors, including residency status (in-state or out-of-state), the campus where the course is taken, and the number of credit hours. Tuition is approved annually in April by the NMSU Board of Regents for the upcoming academic year.
New Mexico State University's tuition is $9,157 for in-state and $27,484 for out-of-state students. Compared with the national average cost of in-state tuition of $12,436, New Mexico State University is cheaper. For students coming from out of state, the tuition is cheaper than the national average cost of out-of-state tuition of $29,815. These figures include both tuition and fees, also referred to as the sticker price.
Resident vs. Non-Resident Tuition
A significant difference exists between tuition rates for New Mexico residents and non-residents. As of academic year 2025-2026, tuition with mandatory fees is $319.46 per credit for residents and $1,032.96 per credit for nonresidents (out-of-state and international students). The NMSU Registrar’s Office determines residency status based on the uniform definition set forth by the New Mexico Higher Education Department.
Members of the Armed Forces, as well as their spouses and minor children, who are not otherwise entitled to claim residency are eligible for tuition payment at the resident student rates upon presentation of certification from their commanding officer of assignment to active duty within New Mexico.

Tuition for NMSU Global Campus
NMSU Global Campus offers a fixed rate per credit hour, with the cost varying based on the program or course level. For specific pricing, students should consult the NMSU Global Campus program details.
Mandatory Fees and Additional Costs
In addition to tuition, students should budget for mandatory fees and other expenses. Fees differ by institution and may fund library services, student gym facilities, student centers, technology resources and campus health centers.
Academic Services Fee
The Academic Services Fee is applied to nearly all courses including face-to-face but excluding courses for practicum/clinical, dual credit, and those offered by NMSUO.
Total Cost Considerations
As you’re comparing costs of different institutions, also consider the total cost and the net price. The total cost is the sticker price, plus the cost of food and housing, books and supplies, and transportation and personal expenses. At New Mexico State University, the total cost is $27,171 for in-state students and $45,498 for out-of-state students.
Additional Fees
Additional fees may apply depending on classification, number of credits enrolled, specific course delivery methods and other course specific requirements.

Certain courses/labs require an additional fee, which is subject to change. NMSU Course Fees Page provides more details on course-specific fees. Students enrolled in the Automotive, Dental, Radiologic Technology, Welding, and Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration programs will be issued tools during the first week of classes. One-third of the total price of the toolboxes or tool kits is due at the time the tools are issued. The remaining toolbox/kit balance must be paid by the end of the semester in two equal installments, usually spaced two months apart. Failure to pay the balance will result in exclusion from registration the following semester.
Student Printer Usage Fee
A student printer usage fee will be assessed at the rate of $0.10 black & white, per page; $0.25 color, per page. NMSU-A student receives $5.00 (50 pages) free each semester. Additional printing may be purchased at the Business Office. All printing accounts will be closed out at the end of each semester.
Payment Options and Deadlines
By enrolling in classes at DACC/NMSU, a student makes a financial commitment to pay the tuition and fee charges associated with that enrollment. Those preferring to pay in person may do so at the DACC Cashiers Office (DASR 102B) on the East Mesa Campus or on the NMSU Las Cruces Campus at the University Accounts Receivable Office. Students may pay in full, enter into a payment plan, or provide proof of a third-party payment agreement. Students who do not pay in full or make third party payment arrangements by the payment deadline will automatically be placed on the payment plan. Any financial aid received will be applied toward balances owed.
DACC/NMSU reserves the right to cancel the registration of any student who fails to pay, when due, any indebtedness to the institution. DACC/NMSU charges a penalty on all dishonored cash instruments.
Late Registration Penalties
A late registration penalty of $25 will be assessed for course registrations processed during the late registration time period.

Tuition Adjustments and Refunds
Students officially withdrawing or dropping courses during a semester or term are eligible for a 100-percent refund of tuition and fees through the deadlines listed online. Students withdrawing from a course(s) after that deadline will not be eligible for a refund and will remain liable for payment of full tuition and fee charges. Non-attendance does not constitute an official course drop or withdrawal. It is the student’s responsibility to withdraw from the university and/or drop a course if the student decides to not attend once enrollment has taken place.
In cases of academic or disciplinary suspension, eligibility for tuition refunds and adjustments will depend on the conditions of the suspension and will be entirely at the discretion of the institution.
Additional Resources and Considerations
DACC specific information
At NMSU, tuition with mandatory fees for academic year 2025-2026 are $319.46 per credit for residents and $1,032.96 per credit for nonresidents (out-of-state and international students). Students taking between 12 and 18 credits are charged for only 12, provided that all credits are taken exclusively at DACC.
Medical Insurance
DACC does not provide medical insurance for students. DACC students are encouraged to obtain their own medical insurance for any potential illness, accident, or injury that might occur while they are enrolled at the college. Students who have access to the Student Health Center may choose to buy a commercial insurance policy endorsed by NMSU. This insurance is intended to supplement the Student Health Center service. Dependent coverage is not available through NMSU but may be purchased directly from the insurance company; however, dependents of students are not eligible to use the Student Health Center.
AggieFit Program
AggieFit is a good option for improving one’s health while studying at NMSU/DACC. Membership in the AggieFit program provides access to the Activity Center, Aquatic Center, fitness classes provided in both, and participation in our Intramural programs.
Housing
Housing is available to community college students on the same basis as it is for other New Mexico State University students.
