Academic Leadership and Vision

Dr. William A. Heineman assumed the presidency of North Shore Community College on July 6, 2021, becoming the institution's fifth leader. Prior to this appointment, he served as Provost at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill/Lawrence, Massachusetts. Dr. Heineman brings a wealth of experience to NSCC, having dedicated 25 years to the Massachusetts Community College system as faculty, administrator, and executive leader. His extensive background includes roles as Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Throughout his career, Dr. Heineman has consistently focused on enhancing the student experience and fostering innovation in education.

Dr. Heineman's commitment to education extends beyond his administrative roles. He has actively participated in numerous educational and community organizations, including serving as a board member of the National Council of Instructional Administrators and the Teaching Academic Survival and Success Conference. His academic credentials include an EdD from the University of Massachusetts Boston, where his dissertation explored the use of data in decision-making regarding online distance education in community colleges. He also holds a Master’s in Public Policy degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School and a BA in History from the University of Rochester.
