Understanding Tuition Costs at Northeast Community College

Choosing a college is a significant decision, and understanding the financial aspects is crucial. This article provides a comprehensive overview of tuition costs, financial aid options, and other related expenses at Northeast Community College to help prospective students and their families plan effectively.

What is the Cost of Attendance?

The Cost of Attendance (COA), often referred to as a student's budget, is an estimate of expenses for attending Northeast for one year. It's important to understand that the COA is usually higher than a student's bill because it encompasses the total estimated expenses for one year, including tuition and fees, room and board, books, supplies, transportation, loan fees, and miscellaneous expenses. Northeast's COA is used to determine each student's eligibility for financial aid, such as grants and loans.

Breaking Down the Costs

The COA includes both billable and non-billable costs. Billable costs are those that will appear on your student account statement, such as tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board (if applicable). Non-billable costs are estimated expenses associated with attending Northeast that won't appear on your bill. These include allowances for books, transportation, and personal expenses. However, if a student elects to charge books against excess aid, the cost of textbooks becomes a billable cost and will appear on the student's bill.

While expenses vary greatly depending on a student's individual situation, program of study, and spending habits, the following budgets give estimated costs for two semesters (30 credit hours). These estimates are used only to award aid and include the average number of credits taken by our students in an academic year. All costs are paid a semester at a time.

Tuition

  • In-State Tuition: \$3,840 per year
  • Out-of-State Tuition: \$5,130 per year

Other Costs

  • Books and Supplies: \$1,211 per year (estimated)
  • Personal Expenses: \$1,461 per year (estimated)

Understanding Your Bill and Payment Options

You will need to review your statement of account on your My Northeast account. Students approved for financial aid will see authorized aid on their Account Detail for Term section on their My Northeast account. If the authorized aid equals or exceeds tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board charges, you will not be required to make a payment at that time. If tuition, fees, and room and board charges exceed the amount of any authorized aid, the balance is due immediately and payable no later than the first day of the semester.

Financial Aid Opportunities

Financial aid can significantly reduce the overall cost of college. It can include grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study jobs. Financial aid packages vary depending on your financial need. Most colleges determine financial need based on your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

Types of Financial Aid

  • Grants and Scholarships: These don't need to be paid back.
  • Loans: These must be paid back, usually with interest.
  • Work-Study: This allows students to earn money through part-time jobs, often on campus.

Average Aid Package

The average aid package awarded at Northeast Community College is \$2,730.

Net Price: What You'll Really Pay

Your net price is a college’s cost of attendance minus the grants and scholarships you receive. The net price you pay for a particular college is specific to you because it’s based on your personal circumstances and the college’s financial aid policies. For the most accurate estimate of your net price, it's recommended to use the college’s Net Price calculator.

Additional Fees and Special Rates

It's important to be aware of potential additional fees that may apply to specific courses or programs.

  • Aviation courses: incur a \$145.00 per credit hour additional fee.
  • Welding courses: incur a \$56.00 per credit hour additional fee.
