Understanding Northeastern University Tuition and Costs: A Comprehensive Guide

Northeastern University is dedicated to providing prospective students and their families with transparent and accessible information regarding tuition, fees, and financial aid opportunities. A top-tier education represents a significant investment, and Northeastern aims to make this investment worthwhile by offering various resources to help students understand and manage their college costs. This article provides a detailed breakdown of Northeastern University's tuition structure, cost estimation tools, and financial aid programs.

Estimating Your College Costs: The Net Price Calculator

Northeastern University offers a Net Price Calculator to help prospective students estimate their overall college costs and potential financial aid eligibility. This tool is designed for first-time students enrolled in a degree program at the Boston or Oakland campuses. It is not intended for international, transfer, returning, graduate, or College of Professional Studies students.

The Net Price Calculator employs more in-depth financial information to provide an estimate of your need-based financial aid award and family contribution. Please note, the Net Price Calculator may not adequately capture all information related to a family’s financial profile.

To use the Net Price Calculator effectively, you will need to provide the following information:

  • Approximate annual, combined adjusted gross income of parents: This includes wages, salaries, tips, business and farm income, and commissions.
  • Approximate total value of the combined assets of parents: This includes cash, investments, 529 plans owned by the parents, property, and the value of a small business or family farm.
  • Approximate annual adjusted gross income of the student, if any: This includes wages, salaries, tips, business and farm income, and commissions.
  • Approximate total value of the combined assets of the student: This includes cash, investments, 529 plans owned by the student, property, and the value of a small business or family farm owned by the student.
  • Where do you plan to live?

The calculator uses this information to provide an estimate of need-based financial aid and to help anticipate college costs.

Important Considerations Regarding the Net Price Calculator

While the Net Price Calculator is a valuable tool, it is essential to understand its limitations:

  • Estimates Only: The results provided by the Net Price Calculator are estimates and not a guarantee of actual financial aid offers.
  • Further Application Required: To determine your actual financial aid offer, you must complete the CSS Profile, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and submit other supporting documents.
  • Institutional Funding: While your results may include an estimate of “need-based scholarship,” please note this is an estimate of all institutional funding available at Northeastern University.
  • Specific Programs: Estimates derived from net price calculators are based on students entering as first-time students enrolled in a degree program in Boston or Oakland. They are not intended for international, transfer, returning, graduate, or College of Professional Studies students.
