Mission and Vision
The mission of Northwood Academy is to engage, empower, and equip students with an emphasis on college preparation, through academic and character development supplemented by the arts, athletics, and the humanities, with Christian values forming the underlying foundation. The school's vision is to be a college preparatory Christian institution. This vision is realized through curricular and extra-curricular opportunities designed to prepare students for success in college, coupled with a Christian perspective integrated into all aspects of education. Teachers, administrators, and staff equip students to live a victorious life by teaching them from a Christian perspective (in contrast to the morally equivalent, humanistic and naturalistic values prevalent in contemporary education).
Graduates are expected to reason from a Biblical perspective, apply Biblical principles to decision-making, and model behavior that reflects the character of Christ. With these competencies, graduates can compete in any academic arena without compromising their core Christian values.
Academic Program and Opportunities
Northwood Academy Upper School is recognized for its robust academic program, which includes the opportunity for students to earn an internationally recognized AP Capstone diploma. The school encourages students to develop their God-given talents through participation in athletics, performing arts, and various after-school activities.
The curriculum and extra-curricular activities are designed to prepare students for the college of their choice. Students follow a traditional 50-minute, six-class schedule, starting at 8:30 AM and ending at 2:45 PM.

Transition to College

School Culture and Environment
The Upper School offers a warm, friendly, and dynamic environment with a rigorous academic curriculum and numerous opportunities outside the classroom. Students exhibit Charger pride throughout their middle and high school years.
Morning watch starts at 7:00 AM in the cafeteria. Afternoon watch is provided free of charge from 2:45 PM - 4:00 PM in the cafeteria. Starting at 4:00 PM, Charger Watch is available for students until 6:00 PM.

Northwood Academy holds advanced accreditation from several reputable organizations:
- South Carolina Independent Schools Association (SCISA): Northwood Academy holds advanced accreditation from the South Carolina Independent Schools Association. SCISA is a non-profit voluntary association of independent schools. The association's mission is to provide outstanding service to its member schools through academic, athletic, and student-centered programs. SCISA establishes and maintains accreditation standards, coordinates athletic and academic competitions, and provides professional development opportunities for member schools.
- Cognia (formerly AdvancED): Northwood Academy holds Cognia (formerly AdvancED) accreditation. Cognia is a global network of educators dedicated to strengthening schools through a holistic approach to continuous improvement, encompassing accreditation and certification, assessment, professional learning, and customized improvement services.
- Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI): Northwood Academy is an ACSI affiliated school. The Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) is the largest organization of its kind with members in all fifty states, all ten Canadian Provinces, and sixty-three other nations. The association offers its members assistance in numerous educational areas, such as school accreditation programs, staff conferences, and administrative support.
