Hall of Fame Legends
Several Notre Dame alumni have achieved the pinnacle of NFL success, earning enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. These legends have left an indelible mark on the sport, showcasing the Fighting Irish's commitment to developing top-tier talent.
- George Connor: Connor, a standout lineman for the Fighting Irish, was a force in the run game, paving the way for legends like Emil Sitko and Terry Brennan. He never lost a game in his 18 games with the Fighting Irish, going 17-0-1, with the lone tie coming against Army in 1946. Connor was the first recipient of the Outland Trophy. He played eight seasons with the Chicago Bears and became an NFL All-Pro. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1975.
- Nick Buoniconti: Buoniconti played seven seasons for the Boston Patriots (1962-68) and then seven seasons for the Miami Dolphins (1969-1976). He was a member of the Patriots team that advanced to the 1963 AFL championship game, as well as three Dolphins teams to advance to the Super Bowl, two that won the Super Bowl and one team that finished a season 17-0. He was an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and a 2001 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
- Dave Casper: Casper played eight years for the Oakland Raiders (1974-1980, 1984), four years for the Houston Oilers (1980-83) and one year for the Minnesota Vikings (1983). He was a member of the Raiders' Super Bowl XI-winning team, a five-time Pro Bowl selection and a 2002 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
- Paul Hornung: Hornung played nine seasons for the Green Bay Packers. He was a member of four championship teams (1961, 1962, 1965 and 1966) in Green Bay. He was a two-time Pro Bowler and a 1986 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
- Alan Page: Page played 12 seasons for the Minnesota Vikings (1967-1978) and four years for the Chicago Bears (1978-1981). He was a member of four Vikings teams that advanced to the Super Bowl, was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection and a 1988 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
- Tim Brown: Brown played 16 seasons for the Raiders (1988-2003) and one season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2004). He was a member of the Raiders team that advanced to Super Bowl XXXVII, as well as a nine-time Pro Bowl selection. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015.
- Joe Montana: Montana played 13 seasons for the San Francisco 49ers (1979-1992) and two years for the Kansas City Chiefs (1993-94). He led the 49ers to four Super Bowl triumphs (Super Bowl XVI, Super Bowl XIX, Super Bowl XXIII and Super Bowl XXIV), earning game MVP honors in three of those Super Bowls. He was an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and a 2000 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
- Jerome Bettis: Bettis played three seasons for the Los Angeles Rams (1993-95), and then 10 years for the Pittsburgh Steelers (1995-2005). He was a member of the Steelers' Super Bowl XL-winning team, as well as a six-time Pro Bowl selection and eventually a gold jacket and induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Notable NFL Alumni
Beyond the Hall of Fame, numerous other Notre Dame alumni have achieved significant success in the NFL, contributing to their teams and earning recognition for their skills and achievements.
- Joe Theismann: Theismann played 12 seasons for the Washington Redskins (1974-1985), leading the team to two Super Bowls -- winning Super Bowl XVII -- and earning league MVP honors in 1983. He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection.
- Bryant Young: Young dominated the college ranks before doing so at the pro level. Young was selected as an All-American his senior season in 1993, posting 6.5 sacks and 67 tackles. Over his four years, he helped lead the team to a 40-8 record, along with two wins in the Cotton Bowl and one Sugar Bowl win. In the NFL, it was more of the same for Young, who dominated to the tune of 89.5 sacks and eventually became a member of the NFL's All-Decade team for the 1990s.
Notre Dame Players in the NFL Playoffs
With every NFL season, college football fans eagerly anticipate watching their notable alumni compete at the professional level. For Notre Dame fans, the excitement doesn't end with the regular season. Several former Notre Dame players are currently competing in the NFL Playoffs, representing their alma mater on the biggest stage.
NFC
Five of the seven teams in the NFC have former Notre Dame players that are lined up in their two deep.

- Seattle Seahawks: The No. 1 seeded Seattle Seahawks feature two former Irish defensive standouts in free safety Julian Love and defensive tackle Rylie Mills. Love has been one of their defensive leaders since arriving to Seattle in 2023; eight of this 13 career interceptions have been with the Seahawks.
- Chicago Bears: The No. 2 seed in the NFC, the Chicago Bears, feature two notable alums, one of offense and one on defense. Tight end Cole Kmet is one of the two starting tight ends in the Bears offense. He has 30 receptions, 347 receiving yards and two touchdowns this season. Nickel back Nick McCloud is also listed in the two deep and started a few games before their acquisition of CJ Gardner-Johnson, but McCloud is still in the rotation.
- Carolina Panthers: The No. 4 seed Carolina Panthers feature starting tight ends Tommy Tremble, who has become a focal point in this year's offense, and rookie Mitchell Evans. The two have combined for 34 receptions, 420 receiving yards and four touchdowns this season.
- Los Angeles Rams: The No. 5 seed Los Angeles Rams will be relying on their run game in the post season led by former Notre Dame standout Kyren Williams who eclipsed the 1,200 yard rushing mark in back to back seasons. In four years with the Rams, Williams has racked up 3,834 rushing yards and 36 rushing touchdowns.
- Green Bay Packers: The Green Bay Packers, feature former starting offensive lineman for the Irish, Aaron Banks. Banks has started 14 games for the Packers this season and only allowed two sacks on the year.
AFC
Similar to the NFC, five of the seven teams in the playoffs for the American Football conference feature Notre Dame alumni.
- Denver Broncos: The No. 1 seeded Denver Broncos starting right tackle is former Notre Dame captain Mike McGlinchey. The 6-8, 315-pound right tackle has started 16 games for the Broncos this season and only allowed two sacks on the year. He's one of the higher graded offensive lineman on the roster.
- Jacksonville Jaguars: The No. 3 seeded Jacksonville Jaguars also feature a former Fighting Irish offensive lineman. Their starting center, Robert Hainsey, is a former tackle and built a reputation of being a stout blocker in South Bend.
- Pittsburgh Steelers: The 4th seeded Pittsburgh Steelers feature wide receiver and special teams demon Ben Skowronek, who is one of the few Pro Bowlers in the playoffs that also attended Notre Dame.
- Houston Texans: The 5th seeded Houston Texans feature a pair of former Notre Dame offensive lineman. Center Jarrett Patterson and offensive tackle Blake Fisher have been in and out of the starting lineup this season due to a handful of injuries up front for the Texans. Both have played significant minutes and will likely continue seeing the field in the post season.
- Los Angeles Chargers: The Los Angeles Chargers will feature a pair of former Notre Dame captains. Unfortunately, offensive tackle Joe Alt was lost for the season due to an ankle injury, but his performance up to that point earned him a spot on the AFC Pro Bowl roster. Cornerback Cam Hart is the other notable Notre Dame alum in the playoffs for the Chargers.
