Viewers can choose talks about History, Art, Science, Politics, Health & Wellness, and much more.

The Essence of One Day University

One Day University is a community of learners who think that every day you learn something new is a good day. Founded by Steven Schragis and John Galvin in 2006, the program aims to make learning accessible and enjoyable for adults. Rather than expecting a traditional lecture that is solely informative, viewers can anticipate a captivating and enjoyable experience.

The core of One Day University lies in its commitment to providing high-quality educational content delivered by engaging professors. Each professor is thoroughly vetted for their credentials and engaging style. For the last 12 years, One Day University has worked with the country’s most popular professors to develop entertaining versions of their best lectures. These professors have won countless teaching awards and earned the highest possible ratings from their students.

A Broad Spectrum of Topics

One Day University offers online lectures from America’s most popular professors. The platform streams new educational and entertaining online lectures 5 days a week, ensuring that the video library of talks and courses is constantly growing. These short online courses are one-hour presentations that cover everything from art to zoology. Whether you are interested in learning more about history, politics, the arts or business, or simply looking to expand your horizons and learn something new, you are sure to find a captivating lecture in the online video lectures library.

Some of the most popular online lectures include "Hamilton vs Jefferson," "The Science of Happiness," and "The Genius and Rivalry of Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla."

Accessibility and Convenience

One Day University is committed to making technology accessible. Now, you can access the entire video library and join their professors for new talks every day. With a One Day University Subscription, you get access to the entire video library (almost 500 talks), as well as access to daily live streamed talks.

Engaging with the Content

One Day University provides various avenues for engagement. New talks are available every day, with live-streamed talks and Q&A sessions with professors.

The Benefits of Lifelong Learning

As older adults transition away from the daily responsibilities that occupied much of their time, it’s important for them to find meaningful activities that bring a sense of motivation and purpose. Seeking to sharpen their cognitive skills is part of a broader mission that many seniors have in achieving a more holistic and well-rounded lifestyle.

A recent study revealed that 42% of adults ages 45 and older identify as “lifelong learners,” while many more say they intend to engage in learning as they age. This adds up to more than 92 million people spending an estimated $6.9 billion annually in the lifelong learning market.

Partnerships and Expansion

LifeLoop, a cloud-based senior living software, is excited to welcome One Day University to its multi-feature platform. With the addition of One Day University’s dynamic lectures, coupled with over 6,000 pieces of iN2L content available in the LifeLoop library, senior living communities can create dynamic and diverse programming that engages residents at all levels of care and sets them apart from competitors.

Each week, One Day University features five lectures centered around a specific theme. For instance, a theme could focus on ‘paintings,’ featuring lectures such as ‘The Remarkable Genius of Picasso’ and ‘5 Paintings Every Art Lover Should See.’ Activity directors could leverage these featured themes, in addition to iN2L content like ‘Wow Art,’ to host group clubs, facilitate engaging discussions, and promote fun projects that span a week’s worth of thematic engagement. This talk, entitled Frida Kahlo: Love, Pain, and Painting, is but one example of the hundreds of talks offered by One Day University, now available on LifeLoop.

Historical Events and Growth

One Day University held its largest event to date on Sunday, October 4, 2009, at the Hilton Hotel in New York City. 5,000 students from around the country attended One Day U to learn from 17 professors from notable universities, along with keynote speaker and Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz. One year later, on October 3, 2010, 4,000 students returned to the Hilton in New York for another event. Faculty on that day included former New York State Governor Mario Cuomo and award-winning writer and Princeton professor Joyce Carol Oates.

In May 2021, the company was acquired by CuriosityStream, a subscription streaming video service focused on factual content.

Overcoming Technological Barriers

While many seniors may have approached technology with trepidation and a closed mind in the past, that narrative is quickly changing. Technology no longer needs to hinder and frustrate seniors. Instead, it can open new windows that allow them to connect with the world around them. LifeLoop is proud to welcome One Day University to its platform. Together, they seek to make technology accessible to seniors.

Membership and Access

Access to all online lectures, invitations to special events with professors and discounts to live events come standard with OneDayU membership. One Day University offers group discounts for businesses or organizations.
