Operation Thank an Officer: Scholarship Opportunities for Future Law Enforcement Professionals
The Operation Thank an Officer program recognizes the critical role law enforcement officers play in our communities. In support of these individuals and to address the dwindling recruitment numbers within law enforcement agencies, Operation Thank an Officer offers several scholarship opportunities. These scholarships aim to assist students pursuing careers in law enforcement and the children of those who serve or have served in law enforcement.
Scholarship Programs Overview
Operation Thank an Officer launched scholarships after our President Liz heard about the dwindling recruitment numbers within law enforcement agencies. After speaking with members of the community and the Operation Thank an Officer board, we decided to launch a scholarship program to help students entering the law enforcement field. Since the inception of our program, we’ve added a number of scholarships including one that supports students of law enforcement officers, the State Trooper Josuha Orbeck Memorial Scholarship, and our new Law Enforcement Scholarship. We’ve gifted over $50,000 in scholarship money.
There are two primary scholarship programs offered by Operation Thank an Officer:
- College Scholarship: This scholarship is specifically designed for college students who are either children of currently serving or retired law enforcement officials or students who are pursuing a degree in the law enforcement field. Students currently enrolled in an institute of higher education who have a parent presently serving in law enforcement, a retired law enforcement official, or a law enforcement official who has passed away are eligible to apply.
- High School Scholarship: Operation Thank an Officer's Scholarship (High School) program provides scholarships to current high-school seniors who have a parent presently serving in law enforcement, a retired law enforcement official, or a law enforcement official who has passed away.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for Operation Thank an Officer scholarships, applicants must meet specific criteria, which may vary slightly depending on the specific scholarship (high school or college). However, some common eligibility requirements include:
