Personalized Learning and Support
Pearson Online Academy provides students with personalized learning plans, granting them the flexibility and support necessary for success in all aspects of their lives. Access to teachers and guidance counselors ensures that students receive individualized attention and guidance.
Curriculum Overview
Elementary School
Elementary students build a strong foundation for future learning by developing essential skills in reading, writing, and math. Utilizing hands-on instructional resources, teachers integrate science, social studies, technology, art, and physical fitness into the core curriculum, providing a well-rounded educational experience.
Middle School
Middle school students refine their language arts, math, and critical thinking skills through a combination of online and offline activities. Their understanding of history and science is deepened, while exciting electives and clubs allow them to explore new skills, discover art in everyday life, and explore emerging technologies.
High School
In addition to core courses in math, science, English, and social studies, high school students can explore their passions through a variety of elective courses, including marine science, game design, and world languages. Pearson Online Academy offers many NCAA-approved core high school courses for college-bound student athletes preparing to enroll in a Division I or Division II school. Students seeking NCAA eligibility must complete coursework consistently and discuss course progress with teachers at a minimum of four checkpoints throughout the course. Virtual private high school students work collaboratively with their counselors and Learning Coaches to develop a personal learning plan for academic progress and postsecondary planning. Student interaction is a critical part of the overall educational process for international online high schools.

Course Types
Pearson offers a diverse range of courses to meet the unique needs of all learners. These include:
Core Courses
These standards-based courses allow students to work independently and sequentially through the material, guided by system-generated feedback and grading. Pearson Connexus courses are aligned to state standards for rigor, depth, and breadth. Courses are subject to continuous improvement based on state assessment outcomes, user feedback, and standards alignment. Our inclusive set of core high school courses covers subjects in math, science, English, and social studies.
Elective Courses
These sequential courses allow students to extend their learning in areas of interest or focus. Elective offerings span an exciting variety of subject areas, such as the arts, STEM, world languages, and Career Technology Education (CTE).
AP Courses
Advanced Placement (AP) courses provide high school students with a head start on college by helping them develop the skills and study habits needed for success in higher education. Furthermore, high scores on national AP exams may enable students to earn early college credit. Many four-year colleges in the United States and abroad grant credit, advanced course placement, or both, depending on their individual policies. * AP® and Advanced Placement® are registered trademarks of the College Board.
Honors Courses
Honors courses in grades 9-12 provide learners with instructional content that challenges them to think deeply and engage with core concepts in meaningful ways. These courses are particularly beneficial for gifted learners.

Foundations Level Courses
These courses provide support and instruction in prerequisite skill areas, as well as additional scaffolding for new skill areas. Foundation courses may also be structured differently, such as chunking content in longer units or lessons into smaller chunks of content. Foundation Courses are available for English and math courses for grades 9-12.
Credit Recovery Courses
These standards-based prescriptive courses are designed to support students in the mastery of essential objectives and the recovery of required credits based on the personalized results of a pre-test.
Addressing Resource Constraints
Pearson recognizes that students' needs are increasing, while resources may be limited. To address this challenge, Pearson offers a broad range of content for K-12 learners, providing hundreds of proven, standards-based, state-aligned online courses at various levels.
