Navigating the Pepperdine Regents Scholars Program: A Comprehensive Guide to Requirements and Opportunities
Pepperdine University offers a variety of financial aid options to help students finance their education. These include grants, scholarships, and other forms of assistance. Among the most prestigious is the Regents Scholars Program, offering significant merit-based scholarships. This article provides a detailed overview of the Pepperdine Regents Scholarship requirements, along with other relevant financial aid information for prospective and current students.
Understanding Pepperdine's Financial Aid Philosophy
Pepperdine University requires that students understand and agree to the terms and conditions regarding all financial assistance policies. Financial aid at Pepperdine is administered by the Office of Student Financial Assistance and is subject to established University policies. These policies ensure that aid is distributed fairly and in accordance with federal and institutional guidelines.
Regents Scholars Program: A Deep Dive
The Pepperdine University's Regents Scholars Program is incredibly competitive. Admission to Pepperdine is already highly selective, and only the top 8-10 percent of the admitted first-year class are selected to receive this award. Students who are considered for the Regents Scholars Program scholarships are evaluated on their academic merit. This is measured by their unweighted, recalculated GPA and SAT/ACT/CLT scores. Scholarship recipients are exemplary students who have earned the highest combination of GPA and test scores in the incoming class.
Test Optional Policy and Merit Aid
It's important to note Pepperdine has a test-optional policy. The SAT/ACT/CLT are optional for all applicants during the admission process. However, SAT/ACT/CLT scores are required in order to be considered for the Regents Scholars Program scholarships. If submitted, test scores will be one of several factors the admission committee considers when reviewing a student's application. In our holistic review, the majority of a student's admission decision is based on academic achievement as demonstrated through the unweighted and recalculated GPA, the transcript which shows course rigor and trends, the school report which shows the academic context, and test scores if submitted for review. Our holistic review also dedicates significant consideration to non-academic achievements. These achievements are assessed via the application's Activities section, essays, and letter of recommendation. Students who choose to apply without submitting test scores will not be penalized. Pepperdine's application review has always been holistic and we will continue to consider all parts of an applicant's application when determining the best fit students for Pepperdine.

Other Merit-Based Scholarships
Even if you don't submit test scores, you can still be considered for other forms of merit aid, including the George Pepperdine Achievement Award, Blanche E. Seaver International Scholarship, and more. The following components will be factored into consideration for merit aid: a student's unweighted and recalculated GPA, demonstrated course rigor, overall strength as an applicant as determined by the admission committee, and test scores (if submitted).
Need-Based Grants: Pepperdine Grant
Pepperdine Grant funds are made available from University resources. This grant is awarded based on demonstrated financial need (as demonstrated by the FAFSA) at Pepperdine. To be considered for this grant, you must apply for the FAFSA each year. However, you do not need to apply for the FAFSA each year for the grant to be renewed. The grant remains the same in dollar amount from year to year as long as the student continues to qualify. To continue receiving this grant each semester, students must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Other Institutional Grants and Scholarships
Pepperdine offers a variety of other institutional grants and scholarships, including the Tyler Trust End Scholarship, Malibu Seaver Scholarship, and Frank R. Blanche E. Seaver International Scholarship. These awards can provide significant financial assistance to eligible students.
Church of Christ Recommendation
Pepperdine University has a historical affiliation with the Church of Christ tradition. Applicants who are actively involved in a Church of Christ congregation may be eligible for additional scholarship opportunities. To be considered, follow these steps:

- Have your Church of Christ minister (or elder, or deacon) complete the Helen Young Scholarship form by February 15.
- The minister should submit the recommendation and scholarship form through the Pepperdine Application Portal.
President's Leadership Partners (PLP) Scholarship
The President's Leadership Partners (PLP) Scholarship is an increasingly important source of funding for students. The amount from year to year remains the same as the student continues to meet the Terms and Conditions of the PLP contract. Recipients must maintain a cumulative 2.5 Pepperdine GPA and Satisfactory Academic Progress for the award to be renewed during their time at Pepperdine.
