Navigating PHCC Continuing Education Courses: A Comprehensive Guide
Maintaining professional licensure in the plumbing, heating, and cooling (PHCC) industries often requires ongoing continuing education (CE). This article provides a detailed overview of PHCC continuing education courses, focusing on key aspects such as registration, important notices, course formats, and specific state requirements.
Early Bird Registration and Walk-In Policies
To encourage timely registration and ensure a smooth classroom experience, PHCC offers Early Bird rates for those who register for classes more than two days in advance. Registrations made within two days of the class start date will be subject to the walk-in rate. This policy allows instructors to receive class rosters ahead of time, facilitating better preparation and organization. Your understanding and support are greatly appreciated.
Important Notices Regarding Fees and Policies
Several important notices are in effect regarding fees and policies for PHCC courses:
- Walk-In Service Fee: Effective January 1, 2025, walk-in attendees will be charged a $15 service fee at the door in addition to the cost of the class for BackFlow, Code Training, and OSHA courses.
- Test Prep Class Payment Policy: Also effective January 1, 2025, walk-in attendees for Test Prep classes must pay with cash or cashier's check and will be charged an additional $15 service fee at the door.
- Master Test Prep Retake Policy: Effective January 1, 2025, PHCC will provide one free retake of the Master Test Prep class if the test results for the Master Test with the TSBPE resulted in a failing grade. Proof of the failing test score must be provided when signing into the retake class.
Understanding CE Requirements and TSBPE Guidelines
Previously, the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) used course years to track continuing education requirements. However, this system has been eliminated. Plumbers now have 12 months prior to their license expiration to complete the required CE hours. PHCC Plumbing CE courses are valid for any license renewal within 12 months of completion.
Licensees can renew their plumbing licenses online up to 60 days prior to renewal. To verify whether CE requirements have been met, licensees can use the TSBPE's Public License Search. This online tool provides comprehensive information, including fingerprint status, completed training classes, and hours certified by an employer (if on file).

Continuing Education Opportunities in Iowa
The PHCC of Iowa offers continuing education classes to assist both members and non-members in obtaining their CEU credits for license renewal. Iowa's license renewal cycle occurs every three years, with all licensees renewing at the same time. In alignment with this schedule, PHCC of Iowa primarily offers 8-hour continuing education courses (2 hours code, 2 hours safety, 4 hours discipline) during the 9 to 12 months prior to the renewal date.
Registration is now open for Live & Virtual Session 17 classes, which will begin in the Fall of 2024. Sessions 17 and 18 must be completed before renewing a license in April of 2026.
Course Delivery Methods: In-Person, Virtual, and Online
PHCC understands that professionals have diverse learning preferences and schedules. Therefore, they offer multiple course delivery methods:
Live In-Person Classes
Licensees have the option to attend live classes led by an instructor. PHCC offers Live In-Person Classes in various locations throughout the state and in southern New Hampshire resuming this Fall. Completing Session 17 class early helps to avoid the rush. Licensees may register through our online webstore or by contacting our office, 781-843-3800.
Virtual Sessions
This cutting-edge method allows you to participate virtually. All you must do is sit by your computer in the comfort of your home and, of course, pay attention. The PHCC of MA instructor team will engage with the class by encouraging your questions and leading discussions.

Online Programs
Clients preferring a digital method will enjoy the flexibility of our online programs. Review the information on the computer without an instructor, at your own pace, and not necessarily in one sitting. The curriculum is identical to the topics used in our classes and correspondence programs. Successful completion requires attaining a minimum test score of 70%. Available since 2008, thousands of licensees have selected this option.
Correspondence Programs
Customers who purchase a correspondence program will receive a hard copy of all the materials they will need to review in order to complete the program. Each correspondence program you order will include the session handbook, and a guide containing step-by-step instructions, test questions and sheet to record your answers. A computer is not required.
