EA Sports College Football 25: A New Era for College Football Gaming

After an 11-year hiatus, EA Sports has revived its college football video game series with the release of EA Sports College Football 25. The return marks the first time the game has been released since 2013, reigniting the passion of fans who have eagerly awaited its comeback. The previous entry in the series was halted due to a lawsuit filed by former college football players. These players argued that their name, image, and likeness (NIL) were used without permission or compensation.

Background and Hiatus

The series, previously titled "NCAA Football," went on hiatus due to a lawsuit settlement as former college football players argued that their name, image, and likeness (NIL) were used without their consent. Initially, player names and likenesses were not to be included in the game. Several schools, including Notre Dame, Tulane, and Northwestern, initially refused to join the game until NIL rules were finalized. EA Sports responded by stating that "player name, image and likeness is not currently planned for the game. However, we are watching the developments in this area closely and are prepared to take steps to include players should that opportunity arise." At the time, the NCAA had delayed and not voted on new NIL rules, but over two dozen states had either passed or proposed laws so that institutions couldn't enforce the NCAA's NIL rules. The 2021 United States Supreme Court case NCAA v. Alston further influenced the landscape.

Return and Development

In February 2021, EA Sports announced its return to the college football scene after changes in NIL rules and college athletes. On November 22, 2022, EA Sports vice president and general manager Daryl Holt stated that Electronic Arts would release the game sometime in summer 2024. "That's the best date for us to bring the game that we think is going to meet or exceed our player expectations…and cover the breadth and scale of what we want in the game." On February 22, 2024, EA Sports announced that all 134 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) programs would be featured in EA Sports College Football 25 but the 128 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) programs would not be included at launch.

Key Features and Gameplay

EA Sports College Football 25 delivers authentic, fast-paced action in iconic college stadiums. It is designed for players of all skill levels, offering various modes and features that capture the essence of college football.

Gameplay Trailer and Initial Impressions

A 21-minute gameplay trailer was premiered on July 8, 2024, featuring YouTuber Bordeaux and cover athlete Donovan Edwards. They played two games, with Edwards winning both with raw gameplay being revealed soon after. As well as the trailer, the day after, an Ultimate Team Deep Dive was posted. On July 12, 2024, YouTubers and Twitch Streamers who are in EA's Creator Network program got access to a nearly final edition of the game, in which rebuilds, player careers, and raw gameplay were shortly uploaded and streamed on YouTube, Twitch, and other platforms.

Authentic Stadiums and Atmospheres

Iconic atmospheres and authentic soundscapes fully immerse players inside legendary stadiums, from The Big House to The Swamp, from Tuscaloosa to College Station, complete with all their iconic rituals and traditions.

CampusIQ and Explosive Gameplay

CampusIQ offers an authentic, fast-paced college football experience, featuring an all-new composure system, player Wear & Tear, homefield advantages, and dozens of diverse playstyles across all 134 FBS teams. The movements are crisp, yet there's nuance in what is needed to execute plays. Passing is much more precise, and how good your quarterback is will determine how easy - or hard - it is to air the ball. Players will be heavily rewarded for finding the open lanes, and juking out defenders will leave a smile on anyone's face.

Dynasty Mode

Dynasty mode is a beloved feature, where users can build programs and guide them to national prominence. Becoming a hall of fame-worthy coach is a process, and it'll absolutely take time to become a national power if you start with a low-prestige school. The recruiting feels much more personalized and realistic to the point you'll become attached to those recruits you're so desperately trying to get to sign with your team, happy if you get them and disappointed if you don't. The presentation of the game is also deeper in dynasty mode with commentary on how a team's season is going and the domino effects around the college football world.

Road to Glory Mode

Road to glory is a mode everyone should try once. It's fast paced but also has layers that make every experience unique. It has funny moments, like do you cheat on a test or skip your night class for that midnight party, but it also makes every decision made important. Focus on becoming a leader and your player will have poise, but if those grades drop, you won't be able to play.

Ultimate Team

Build your dream team of college football stars and legends. Play Solo Challenges or H2H Seasons to upgrade your squad and take on the toughest contests.

NIL Integration and Player Inclusion

Practically every player in FBS also had their name featured in the game for the first time ever. Over 10,000 FBS players agreed to an NIL deal to be a part of the game. On March 5, 2024, it was announced that over 10,000 athletes had signed up to have their likenesses included in the game.

Commentary Team

That same day, ESPN's lead college football commentary team of Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit announced that they would be featured as commentators. Herbstreit was a commentator in EA's original NCAA Football series until its hiatus after NCAA Football 14.

Music

Other licensed music appearing in College Football 25 includes "Sandstorm", "Mo Bamba", "Kernkraft 400", "Welcome to the Jungle", "Wave on Wave", and an instrumental of "Talkin' Out the Side of Your Neck".

For sports simulation games like EA College Football 25, network stability is crucial for competitive gameplay. Common network issues include:

  • High Ping: This can lead to a noticeable delay between your actions and the game’s response, which can ruin competitive matches.
  • Packet Loss: When game data packets are lost in transmission, it can cause lag spikes, stuttering, or even disconnects.
  • Jitter: An unstable connection can lead to inconsistent gameplay, where your actions don't sync with what's happening on screen.

To improve your connection, consider using a gaming VPN like GearUP Booster or a gaming router such as the GearUP HYPEREV.

Future of the Series

EA Sports' beloved college football video game series won't be hitting the transfer portal any time soon."College Football 26" will return for the 2025 season and will be available this summer, EA Sports announced Thursday.
