Navigating the RBI Internship Landscape: Eligibility and Opportunities

RBI Summer Internship Programme: Eligibility and Key Details

The Reserve Bank of India has initiated the application process for the Summer Internship Programme, offering a chance for students to gain practical experience. Aspirants can fill out the form until December 15 for internships starting in April. The Bank will select a maximum of 125 students for summer placement every year. In January or February of the following year, interviews for short-listed candidates will be held at designated offices. The names of selected students will be announced in February or March.

Eligibility Criteria for the Summer Internship

Students eligible to apply for the summer placement must be pursuing one of the following programs from institutions/colleges in India:

  • Post-graduate courses
  • Integrated five-year programs in Management, Statistics, Law, Commerce, Economics, Econometrics, Banking, or Finance
  • Three-year full-time professional bachelor's degree in Law

Only students currently in the penultimate year of their course are eligible to apply.

Stipend and Duration

Summer trainees are eligible to receive a monthly stipend of ₹ 20,000/- per month. Normally the period of placement will be for a maximum of three months during the period from April to July.

Selection Process

In the month of November / December each year, the interview for the short listed candidates will be held at the offices indicated above. The short listed outstation candidates will be required to bear the travel costs of journey to the office of RBI and back for this purpose.

RBI Research Internship: Deep Dive into Research Opportunities

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) also offers Research Internships at its Headquarters in Mumbai. This program provides a platform for individuals with a strong academic background to contribute to policy-oriented research.

Eligibility Criteria for Research Internship

  1. Qualification:

    • DEPR (Department of Economic and Policy Research): Postgraduate in Economics/Banking/Finance/Quantitative-oriented degrees or MBA (Finance).
    • DSIM (Department of Statistics and Information Management): Postgraduate in Statistics/Econometrics/Data Science, or B.E./B.Tech./MBA (Finance).
    • FSD (Financial Stability Department): Postgraduate in Statistics/Economics/Econometrics/Finance, or MBA with Finance.
    • ID (International Department): Postgraduate in Economics/Statistics/International Finance/International Relations, or MBA with Finance.
  2. Desirable Skills:

    • Proficiency in econometric and statistical software (Stata, EViews, R, Python, Tableau).
    • Research experience and familiarity with machine learning techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Assist RBI researchers in policy-oriented research for academic publications.
  • Compile and analyze data using econometric and statistical tools.
  • Collaborate on research and policy-related articles.

Benefits

  • Stipend: ₹45,000/month.
  • Office space, internet, and other facilities provided by RBI.
  • Leave: 12 days per 6-month internship.
