Richland One Middle College: A Focus on Student Success and Modern Branding
Richland One Middle College (ROMC) stands as a unique educational option within the Richland One School District. Located at Midlands Technical College on its Beltline Campus in Columbia, ROMC opened its doors in 2003 as the only high school of choice in the district. While maintaining consistently high graduation rates, the school recognized the need to enhance its regional presence and boost enrollment, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Addressing Enrollment and Awareness Challenges
Under the leadership of Dr. Carla Brabham, ROMC partnered with Rhodes Branding in December 2022 to develop and implement a strong enrollment marketing strategy, effectively acting as an extension of the school's marketing team.
The initial phase of this collaboration focused on strengthening ROMC's digital footprint and marketing materials. The four-month campaign generated significant results, including 1.16 million impressions and over 6,500 clicks. This increased visibility led to higher attendance numbers at information sessions, both in-person and online. These efforts contributed to the largest overall enrollment for the 2023-24 school year.
Refining the Visual Identity for a Modern Era
Building upon the success of the initial marketing campaign, the partnership between ROMC and Rhodes Branding expanded in 2023-2024 to address the school's next priority: refining its visual identity and building brand awareness.
Historically, ROMC had utilized an educational crest and a bulldog mascot. However, the school recognized that these brand marks lacked distinctiveness and did not fully represent ROMC's impact on student success.

Dr. Brabham and her team envisioned a bold, daring, and modern look that would reflect the ambition of Middle College students who choose ROMC for its academic rigor and the professionalism the school instills as students strive for college and career aspirations.
Through in-person creative listening sessions with school leaders, the Rhodes Branding team developed creative concepts for a unique and modern bulldog logo, and an updated educational crest that includes elements that resonate with the current school community. The new visual identity aimed to capture the essence of ROMC's mission and values.
