Navigating Rowan University Admissions: Understanding GPA and Test Score Requirements
Gaining admission to Rowan University involves understanding its academic expectations and strategically presenting your qualifications. While the university employs a holistic review process, GPA and standardized test scores remain important factors in the admissions decision. This article provides a detailed overview of Rowan University's GPA and test score considerations, offering insights for prospective students.
Acceptance Rate and Selectivity
Rowan University has an acceptance rate of 78.3%, indicating that it is lightly selective. This means that while admission is not guaranteed, a significant portion of applicants are accepted. Meeting the university's expected requirements for GPA and SAT/ACT scores significantly increases your chances of receiving an offer of admission.
GPA Expectations
Rowan University does not have an exact minimum GPA requirement, but it does provide a general range for incoming students. The average high school GPA of admitted students at Rowan University is around a 3.45 on a 4.0 scale.
The GPA requirement that really matters is the GPA you need for a real chance of getting in. Rowan University requires you to be around average in your high school class. You'll need a mix of A's and B's, and very few C's. A GPA in this range or higher would generally give you a solid chance of being accepted. If your GPA falls slightly below the average, it may not be an automatic disqualifier, as long as you have other strong aspects of your application to compensate.
If you have a lower GPA, you can compensate with harder courses like AP or IB classes. If you're currently a junior or senior, your GPA is hard to change in time for college applications. If your GPA is at or below the school average of 3.48, you'll need a higher SAT or ACT score to compensate.

Test-Optional Policy and Standardized Testing
Rowan University offers a test-optional admissions policy, allowing prospective students to apply without submitting SAT or ACT scores. This approach is designed to provide a more holistic review of applicants, focusing on their high school performance, extracurricular activities, leadership experiences, and personal essays. By not requiring standardized test scores, Rowan aims to reduce barriers for students who may not perform well on standardized tests but demonstrate strong academic potential and achievements in other areas. You may choose to submit SAT or ACT scores for consideration, however you will not be penalized if you choose not to submit them.
Despite this policy, the truth is that most students still take the SAT or ACT, and most applicants to Rowan University will submit their scores. If you don't submit scores, you'll have one fewer dimension to show that you're worthy of being admitted, compared to other students.
SAT Scores
Rowan University hasn't explicitly named a policy on SAT/ACT requirements, but because it's published average SAT or ACT scores, it's likely test flexible. If you choose to provide test scores submit official SAT scores to Rowan using the CEEB code 2515.
Many schools say they have no SAT score cutoff, but the truth is that there is a hidden SAT requirement. The 25th percentile SAT score is 1120, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1310.
Rowan University practices "superscoring." This means that you can choose which SAT tests you want to send to the school. Rowan University will take your highest section score from all your test dates, then combine them to form your Superscore. Because you can choose which tests to send in, and Rowan University forms your Superscore, you can take the SAT as many times as you want, then submit only the tests that give you the highest Superscore. Therefore, if your SAT superscore is currently below a 1120, we strongly recommend that you consider prepping for the SAT and retaking it. Even better, because of the Superscore, you can focus all your energy on a single section at a time. If your Reading score is lower than your other sections, prep only for the Reading section, then take the SAT. Then focus on Math for the next test, and so on.

ACT Scores
The average ACT score at Rowan University is 26. The 25th percentile ACT score is 23, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 29.
When you send ACT scores to colleges, you have absolute control over which tests you send. You could take 10 tests, and only send your highest one. This means that you have more chances than you think to improve your ACT score. To try to aim for the school's ACT requirement of 23 and above, you should try to take the ACT as many times as you can.
By and large, most colleges do not superscore the ACT. We weren't able to find the school's exact ACT policy, which most likely means that it does not Superscore.
Currently, only the ACT has an optional essay section that all students can take. Rowan University considers the SAT Essay/ACT Writing section optional and may not include it as part of their admissions consideration.
Holistic Review
Rowan University's admissions process involves a holistic review of each applicant. This means that admissions officers consider a variety of factors beyond GPA and test scores, including:
