Requirements and Classifications
To be eligible for an internship with Sacramento County, students must be currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution, pursuing a program certificate, Associate's, Bachelor's, or advanced degree. The County utilizes specific classifications for college students interested in internships, tailored to a student's area of interest. College of Business Internships
For business students at Sacramento State, internships are a valuable component of their academic and professional development. The information below pertains only to internships where a declared business major earns academic credit for an approved internship experience. below for important dates regarding documentation submission for Fall and Spring Academic Internships. These dates are non-negotiable as there are internal deadlines set by the University. Summer Academic Internship deadlines are subject to summer term census dates. Expressed Interest business students are not eligible for an academic internship. At any time, any business student is allowed to, and encouraged, to complete internships without receiving academic credit. The College of Business does not offer internship placement. Students are responsible for obtaining an internship on their own prior to starting the process outlined below.

Academic Credit and Requirements
Note: Academic credit earned for an academic internship in the COB will always be 3.0 units and graded on a Credit/No Credit basis. This must be signed by the student's employer and Faculty Sponsor. This will be the faculty member that will act as the student’s “Instructor” throughout the semester, who the student will report to, and who will assign a grade at the end of the semester. Once the student submits their completed Student Learning Agreement, all documentation will be submitted for signature and final approval by the Director of the OSE and Associate Dean of Academic Programs. If approved, the student will be manually enrolled into the appropriate section by the Enrollment Specialist.
Business Job Board
The Business Job Board allows you to post, modify, close, and/or reopen positions that you would like to announce to currently enrolled business students at Sacramento State. Parker Dewey Micro-Internships
Students and recent graduates from all majors can gain real-world experience by completing short-term, paid, typically-remote, professional projects. These unique projects are posted at all times of the year by companies of all sizes, from Fortune 100 corporations to emerging startups. There is no official cutoff, but Parker Dewey is designed to help early career professionals launch their careers. Projects completed through Parker Dewey are available to international students who are either affiliated with one of our partner programs or those attending a US-based college or university. Sports Medicine Internships
The objective for the Sacramento State Sports Medicine student internship is to provide opportunities to further expand knowledge and allow for learning hands-on skills that may be applied in any allied health profession. Internship candidates should be highly motivated individuals who have a drive to learn more about various health care professions including athletic training. Candidates should have a professional demeanor & appearance & have the willingness to work hard. Students will be mentored and supervised by staff athletic trainers that have the responsibility for the student-athletes' health and care. Should be able to work 3-5 days a week, 3-4 hours per day, with evening and weekend hours. Hours will vary on needs for the week/amount of student interns (avg around 15-20 hrs).
Application Process
Once applications have been reviewed, students will be invited to observe during the months of January & February. Select students will then be interviewed by the program directors during the month of March. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance into the program by the end of March/beginning of April.

Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration (RPTA) Internships
All recreation majors, and many of our graduate students, complete professional internships, consistent with the accreditation standards for our undergraduate programs. Students should work with Faculty advisor to find an internship placement. Internships are complicated and need to meet various standards for programmatic reasons and to satisfy campus and CSU rules that help establish liability coverage for both students and agencies. Due to Council on Accreditation, Parks, Recreation and Tourism requirements all students must complete 1,000 hours of work or volunteer experience in the field. At Sac State, students are required to complete 600 pre-internship hours and 400 internship hours. All pre-internship hours must be completed before a student can enroll in the internship course (RPTA 195).
Required Forms and Deadlines
- Form A (Pre-Internship Hours) PDF: turn into RPTA Academic Advisor. All pre-internship hours must be completed prior to starting your internship.
- Form B (Contract Agency Form): This form must be submitted by students who choose to conduct their internship at a site not listed on the Community Partner list. Form must be submitted via CEC Connect by the following dates: Feb.15th if interning in the Summer or Fall semesters; Oct.13th if interning in the Spring semester. The Internship coordinator is Dr.
- Form C (RA & HTM Internship Agreement): Must be submitted via CEC Connect and completed along with a statement of Goals and Objectives, signed by the student, the major advisor and the agency supervisor, before the department registers the student for RPTA 195Q, R, G & H. Incomplete forms will not be processed. Form must be submitted via CEC Connect by the following dates: Nov 15th if interning in Spring; Apr 15th if interning in Summer; Jul 29th if interning in Fall. *The faculty internship supervisor is the faculty member assigned to supervise you during your internship. These assignments are often determined based on faculty workload considerations and the faculty member assigned may not be your own major advisor. This can be completed as a full internship (195R-RA full internship / 195G-HTM full internship) or by combining two partial internships (195Q- RA partial internship / 195H-HTM partial internship).
Recreation Therapy (RT) Internships
RT students must carefully choose their internship sites with their advisor's advice in order to meet certification requirements. Be advised: that for national certification through NCTRC (see above), you must ensure that your supervisor is a CTRS. If you find an agency that meets the requirements for an RT internship that is not in the spreadsheet, please send the following information to the Dept. Chair Dr. Full Name and contact information for the facilities Recreational Therapist. Please note that submitting this information does not guarantee the university and/or the agency will agree to a contract.
