Beginning in the fall, Sage Hill will be offering 7th and 8th grade classes. The middle school curriculum offers a learning experience that sparks curiosity and builds a strong academic foundation. With small classes and engaging, experiential learning, students explore core subjects -- English, math, science, history, and world languages -- while beginning to chart their own path through a wide range of electives, from robotics to debate to the visual and performing arts. Community and Student Life

A sense of community permeates everything that happens on the Sage Hill campus. Each week begins with a Town Meeting for middle and upper school students, when students assemble together Wilkins Town Square for announcements, student performances, and inspirations. Twice a year, pep rallies are held in the Peter V. Ueberroth Gymnasium with spirit competitions in which each grade vies to win the “Class Cup.” Sage Hill students also participate in more than 80 clubs each year.

Middle School Athletics

All middle school students participate in a team sport each season -- fall, winter, and spring -- as part of the physical health requirement, with opportunities to compete or simply grow through active involvement. With offerings including volleyball, flag football, water polo, basketball, baseball, soccer, and lacrosse, students will build skills, develop discipline, and learn the value of collaboration.

Upper School Athletics

The Lightning Athletics program is both rigorous and competitive. Sage Hill’s teams and individual athletes have achieved success at the league, division, and state levels. Teams compete in one of three seasons: fall, winter, and spring. Most sports practice daily, immediately after school, at the campus athletics facilities (including the Brett Connor Jordan & Family Tennis Center and the Aquatics Center). Games and meets typically take place after school or on Saturdays.

Arts

Sage Hill’s comprehensive arts program celebrates the natural artist in each of our students. In middle school, students may choose from eight different visual and performing arts arts electives. In ninth grade, students begin with an Arts Survey class that covers a variety of arts disciplines, and then have opportunities to participate in more than 25 different performing and visual arts courses in the 30,000-square-foot Studio at Sage Hill.

Spring at Sage and Service Learning

Spring at Sage empowers students to become agents of change by engaging in cultural immersion through travel or seminar experiences. Immediately following spring final exams, all students and faculty spend a week participating in an intensive seminar or a group travel program. Service Learning empowers students to become agents of change by cultivating ongoing relationships with local community partners and finding mutual value in service-based experiences. Through community partnerships, our students are encouraged to develop and/or seek out service needs in the local and global communities that match their educational, personal, and social interests.

Tuition and Flexible Tuition Program

Tuition is $55,900 for the 2025-2026 school year, with an enrollment deposit of $5,900. Sage Hill School is committed to maintaining a diverse student body that is reflective of all socioeconomic backgrounds. The cost of an independent school education may stand as a significant barrier for families. Flexible Tuition is Sage Hill's need-based financial assistance program that allows families to qualify for reduced tuition based on their unique financial circumstances. The program is comprehensive and applies to tuition and as well as other student fees. On average, Sage Hill allocates $4.5 million toward the Flexible Tuition program with 16% of our students participating.

Applying for Flexible Tuition

Families who are actively seeking a Sage Hill education for their child but are concerned about affordability should consider the Flexible Tuition program. The Flexible Tuition application is a confidential process between the School’s financial aid committee and the family. Several key factors determine a family’s financial strength and, therefore, the appropriate Flexible Tuition amount.

Key Factors Considered

Assets: Family assets may include taxable wages, income drawn as salary but not included as business profit if self-employed, taxable dividend and/or interest income, alimony or child support received, pensions, annuities, rent, royalties, estates or trusts, household expenses paid by separated or divorced spouse in lieu of alimony, unemployment compensation, capital gains, taxable IRA distributions, business profits, Social Security benefits, real estate, vehicles, bank accounts, and other investments.
Expenses and Debt: Typical expenses and debt include educational expenses, medical/dental expenses, debts for investments, unemployment, prolonged illness, past business debts, legal fees, nursing home/assisted living care, child support, costs for a child with special needs, and child care.
Filing Status: Awards will not be considered unless complete financial information is received from both parents or guardians. The Admission Committee reviews and recommends applicants for admission without regard to their financial assistance status. Depending on the applicant pool in a given year, the school may be unable to fund every admissible student who requests financial assistance. The school takes into account that both parents have a financial obligation to contribute to their children's educational expenses and considers the assets and income of both natural parents. If either parent has remarried, the income of the step-parent will also be considered.

Additional Considerations

There are many factors affecting Flexible Tuition awards, with the most significant being family income and assets. While currently enrolled Sage Hill students receive priority, no other outside factor affects the Flexible Tuition amount. Sage Hill typically attributes a small income for stay-at-home parents to the Flexible Tuition calculations to treat families equitably compared to families in which all parents work outside the home. Exceptions to this policy may occur if a parent is caring for a child not yet of school age, a child with a disability, a seriously ill child, parent, or grandparent, or if a parent is disabled and cannot work. Families must reapply for Flexible Tuition each year, as awards are given for one academic year at a time. A family whose financial situation remains relatively unchanged can generally expect the same percentage of their tuition to be covered by Flexible Tuition from year to year. If there is a significant increase in family need, Sage Hill School will seek to accommodate that need.

Application Process

Complete the admission application. Flexible Tuition applications will not be reviewed unless an admission application is completed.
During your student’s admission interview, meet with Sage Hill’s admission team to learn about the Flexible Tuition program.
Go to the Clarity Application and create an account. The application typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete and is mobile-friendly.
At the end of the application, there is a $60 fee to submit, and you can share your application with additional schools that accept the Clarity Application for no additional charge.
If a household member owns 10% or more interest in a corporation, partnership, or trust, you are required to upload those entities’ returns.
