Student Employment Opportunities

Salve Regina University's student employment program offers undergraduate students valuable opportunities to gain professional experience while earning income during the academic year. The program aims to foster personal and professional growth through meaningful work experiences, create supportive and inclusive environments, and empower students to achieve their academic and career goals.

Program Details

Students can work on campus in a variety of departments or participate in off-campus roles through the Service Advocates program. The maximum work hours are eight hours per week, and students are paid the Rhode Island minimum wage.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the student employment program, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a matriculated student
  • Be enrolled for at least 12 credits
  • Be eligible for federal work-study, as determined by Financial Aid, or qualified for a Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA) position

KSA positions are open to all students regardless of federal work-study eligibility. Students who believe their position should be considered a KSA position can contact Financial Aid for an appeal form. Appeals are reviewed and vetted by the student employment committee.

How to Apply for Student Employment

Job openings are posted in Handshake approximately one week prior to the start of classes. To search and apply for available positions:

  1. Log in to Handshake.
  2. Click the "Jobs" search tool in the navigation bar.
  3. To find on-campus student employment positions, click "Filters" and then check the box next to "On Campus" from the available job types.
  4. Click the "Show Results" button.

It's important to note that a federal work-study award is an opportunity to earn, not a guarantee of employment. The program is competitive, so students should apply early in the semester and to as many positions as possible to increase their chances of finding employment. If a student finds employment on campus, they will need to complete employment documents prior to their first day of work.
